Tree

Postby Burgerman » 19 Apr 2019, 17:44

3 years ago I planted a 4 foot tall tree, with no branches. Just a thin stick about 12mm diameter. It was in a pot about as big as a beer glass.

Then I decided to soak it in water and 'miracle grow' plant food. I used about 4x the recommended strength. Daily. Except winter.

Now look at it! It did not reach the wall height (4 foot) when planted.

I am just amazed at the rate of growth. The thing was as thick as a pencil. And about 4 feet tall. Looked rediculous. Now its stem / trunk is fatter than a beer can and the thing is 4 metres tall at least and covered in branches. In 3 years. At this rate it will be a huge tree in another 3.

Talking of "beer can" that jamacan for bacon. Say "beer can" out loud and listen to yourself! :D

I have used Miracle grow for a few years now and it worked extremely well on Tomatoes in my greenhouse and on veggies but that tree of yours has exceeded all expectations by the look of it.

I got squirrels. Started feeding them about 5 years ago and used a box with a lid, various wires and containers without fail. Now we have dozens here daily fighting over peanuts, and sunflower seeds. I buy huge 25g bags from ebay. Highly entertaining. They are just a few feet from my bedroom window. And they eat nuts all around me when at the BBQ.

Buy nuts, be patent. Theres squirrels even in cities. Every spring I have peanut trees growing in 100s of places from my pot plants to all over the lawn. They seem to think they must bury them all over.

It’s lovely seeing wildlife, they have such a hard life. I like squirrels too, they’re really agile.

On my ride on good Friday. I was on the road and a hare was running alongside me in a neighbouring field, he ran for ages. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a hare before? It was definitely a hare, he was big with really long ears.

We have lawn rats... deer... they eat anything. Even bushes they are not supposed to like. A neighbor planted fruit trees... they didn't survive the summer, despite being encircled with sheep fence. I think they jump the 8 foot fence into the wife's garden where our old horse manure piles were. So far, the deer don't bother the planters on the second story balcony.

A lot of people don't like grey squirrels, I don't know why I love seeing them.

I recently heard that the grey squirrel driving out the red squirrel story is a myth. The red squirrel died out in england (still in scotland I believe) cos it is very sensitive to changes in it's enviroment (human encroachment, etc). Whereas the grey is a lot bigger, bolder and hardier.

I know this cos I used to watch Animal Magic ;)

Do you put up bird boxes BM?

If not you should, it's wonderful watching the birdies fly in and out.

I buy a 20kg bag of peanuts, and a 10kg bag of sunflower seeds every month or so. And have 3 bird boxes/tables. And the squirrels eat that too.

Now your squirrels are addicted to sunflower seeds. If you fail to supply them they will eat that beautiful tree you planted. Then they'll go get an acorn or a walnut, hell knows where and plant in the place. Squirrels are so cute. :cussing

Every spring theres hundreds of peanut trees all growing from the lawn, every plant pot. My neibours too. They love it... Its been mentioned several times.

The thing is its not their fault. They are programmed to collect nuts and bury them before winter. Then to hybernate when theres nothing else to collect. But I feed them all winter. So they cant bear to sleep, the thought that theres loads of nuts means they just have to keep working, collecting and burying nuts. They cant bear to ignore them. They are still at it in the depths of february in deep snow. And when spring comes. Probably very confused.

I dont blame the individual. I do blame their programming. I dont hate them, but the thing that makes them do bad stuff. Religion should be ridiculed and certainly not respected by all sane people and governments. The sooner its stamped out the better for all.
