London taxis

Postby greybeard » 07 May 2019, 15:44

Just seen this on Twitter. Might be of interest to Londoners. Although born there, I wouldn't go within 50 miles of the place even if paid. Haven't been for over 20 years.

Taxis will be in Parliament Square highlighting the necessity for 23k wheelchair accessible, door-to-door cabs in London. Taxi drivers are trained to give assistance to EVERYONE. Bus drivers are not allowed to give assistance. And there are only 8k wheelchair accessible buses.

Seconded. A socialist paradice full of people that obviously dont come from the UK. And its smelly and dirty, rip off prices, noisy, and full of crime. Esp in the black areas. A hotbed of religion, benefits scroungers etc. Many of the natives have already moved out.

Cherry on top? Sadiq khan... What a total moron.

Needed to go to see a new client. A journey from Euston to location I needed to be was 1 tube station if I could walk, using TFL step free journey planner 3 buses, 1 tube and a bit of wheelchair driving, 2 hours each way in total. 3 1/2 hour train journey each way so 11 hours travelling for an hour or two with client. Skype will have to do. £6m spent on Tottenham Court Road tube station and still not fully accessible, how our capital city values the disabled. It might be different if we were a small ethnic group or a religious minority.

TFL make you.go round the houses for step free. I was planning on going somewhere up north (i think?) but after realising i be faffing around in London going step free route i didn't bother.

And don't the routemasters have small wheelchair bay for big bus. My local stagecoach goldline double decker has HUGE wheelchair bay and a separate pushchair bay. I expect better from uk capital city

Tried a bus 2 years back. Never again. Same with trains.

Apart from all the obvious problems, you have to depend on others. And others are not dependable. And a van works out cheaper long term. I cant afford busses and trains. I dont just mean money, but time and inconvinience.

I think that depends upon where you are, for me a train to London is much easier than driving. I worked in Taiwan, about 6 trips there a year and would use the bus from airport to high speed rail station then HSR to city I worked in. There was always a bus waiting at the airport, cheap and reliable, trains were every 30 minutes, you got a reserved seat, train pulled up to exactly the right spot for each carriage door, clean inside, reasonable seat space and always on time. 300kph and reasonably cheap. If we had services like that I'd be more inclined to use them.

I never considered wheelchair access and can't recall seeing anyone in a chair use the HSR.
