Only the nutty socialist/liberal/londoner/remainers/media.

The normal sane people in the rest of the country in the main have no problem with him. And we also hate that pakistani london mayor. He is a moron socialist that behaves like a 4 year old. He is an embarrasement to the rest of the country.

Just those so desperate for a trade deal as they have failed to get them elsewhere. Trump can smell the fear.

Absolutely.

London, (and scotland but only 4 people live there) voted to remain. In london its a mass of blacks, muslims, and other foreiners that think they are british just because they arrived and now live there. They are predominantly socialist, LGBT, muslim, and liberal/left wing. They, the media, and those in parliment are all the same type of progressive idiots.

The rest of the country are basically the opposite. And want to be BRITISH or ENGLISH. And generally voted against immigratin, muslims in particular and nationalists. Hence the massive vote for farage whi want closed borders, out with no deal Does anti immigrant, anti muslim, anti EU, and anti socialist (the red bit = england) - ring any bells?

Take a look at the voting map for leave and remain. This shows the massive divide well.
The blue bits are london and scotland.

21% is probably about right many here pro Leave and anti Trump, even BM has been known to call him a fool. Just like in the US opinion is divided but that is what he does well. Uk politicians don't know whether having his endorsement is good or bad but Johnson tends to play that game well and snubbed a meeting which means he didn't think that there was anything to gain. Some will do anything to get a trade deal but realistically what has the US got that we want? The buying power of the NHS but little else, few are interested in US cars, Harley sales slowing although Victory are hitting them hard, consumer brands like Levis probably past their peak. Reduced tariffs might help but not significantly.

Going the other way what do we have that the US wants to buy?

This makes interesting reading if you want the US perspective https://ustr.gov/sites/default/files/Su ... ctives.pdf

Well he really is mentally crazy. But some of what he does is correct and works. But he really isnt a very pleasant person. But I would rather he was the replacement for treason may. Than many of the actual candidates. But fortunately farage will get us out. He may have already done enough.

you have a US made router and laser printer? Not Chinese or Taiwanese. I've got a load of Apple stuff non of it US made, you can't include things that you don't make. WTO guidelines on origin apply.

Read the pdf and you'll find lines like genuinly made in the US and UK.

The US is our biggest export market at £100bn, paltry compared to exports to the EU and top 2 exports are drugs and cars hence my earlier comment. Aircraft is our biggest import from the US. To grow our exports we need more high value exports like cars. Or works of art which was £2.6bn in the last trade statistics. The problem with cars will be the origin content with so many UK assembled cars built with EU sourced parts. That's if we have a car industry left.

"Made" these days has a different meaning than it use to. Apple for instance, a US company, could have an item with parts from all over the world. Shipped to a facility in the US and assembled. You then have an item "Made" in the US by a US company regardless of the parts involved.

If you take the "genuinely made" strictly then almost nothing in this day and age would ever be allowed to be traded.

Thats very true with almost everything. My DELL laptop is an AMERICAN company. And used many US made parts inc many of the chips inc its CPU (intel) and chipset. But its screen is in samsung. its super light thin rubber coated casing is thin alloy casting, made in some part of korea I am informed, memory is also samsung. Its hard disk is too. Although some get intel. Its assembled to order in a plant in china who make the keyboard, and various sub assemblies. The track pad, and its electronics, contain parts from many countries alone. My bill and DELL Europe and the place it shipped from to me, is in ireland.

Most products other than a wooden coffee table are the same. But even then the wood may have come from a different country. And so may the varnish, waxes, and tools that made it. And the company that built it may be a one man band who has a pergeot van... This is why a level free trade deal with all countries is essential, and each one NEEDS that with each other. And eventually thats what gets settled on.

Its also why trumps tarrifs will bite him in the ass given a few years.

Made was replaced with country of origin which I have referred to a number of times, if we go to WTO terms we have to comply with it, guidelines are here https://www.wto.org/english/tratop_e/roi_e/roi_e.htm

I worked for 20 years for a UK bike manufacturer, we made the frame in the UK, painted and assembled bike in the UK with some UK made components the rest came from Taiwan, US, Switzerland, China but we had enough local content to satisfy our rules of origin. It gets even more complex when you get into quotas and anti dumping duty. Part of the negotiations with EU were to get our portion of quotas extracted from the EU quota and we might of published no deal tariffs but nothing on anti dumping duty. It could mean the Chinese made pedal bikes are 25% cheaper which means UK manufacturers face big challenges trying to be competitive.

Woolly. Indeterminate. Basically whatever you decide, is rules of origin.

Why? Because its too complex. Take ANY device or product. The simpler the better here! Say a humble torch (flashlight to those in the US).

Its metals? Or plastics? May be made from a bunch of base metals. Or chemicals. All refined, mined, plated, alloyed or made into the final materials in 10 or 15 countries each using hundreds of sources. How do you decide how much of each, or even find out which were involved. What about the machinery that made it? Invariably that was made in 100 countries too. Thats before we stamped or moulded it to shape. Then theres paints and batteries, switches, glass, reflective coatings, and all of these are made in many countries. God forbid it contains a chip or even a resistor in its charger. Those are made by companies across the globe that in turn use materials from across the world too.

So a thing is made wherever you say it is. Finding the truth is essentially impossible unless you are supplying raw materials out of the ground. Even then your equipment may be from anywhere in the world (probably most of it). And the power to do the work may be from france since we closed all our coal power stations!

WTO guidelines are there to help businesses comply. You can't know where everything comes from, we bought metal from a metal supplier who probably bought from a bigger supplier who probably bought from wherever in the world was cheapest. Depending upon what you manufacture yourself or if it is primarily assembly of parts it can be easy or difficult. Import sub assemblies which comprise almost the whole finished product with minimal labour costs to assemble and it won't qualify as made in. WTO have a technical support system which you can use if you aren't sure or you just say that it is made here and hope that it never gets questioned. If you are importing a high value of goods compared to turnover and export value it might be difficult.

In other words origin is basically whatever someone says it is, mostly. And nobody really knows.

For the purpose of export you have to say where it is made, you don't have to know you just have to say that you know in accordance with the WTO guidelines. Usual bureaucracy and you would be at fault if you hadn't followed the guidelines. WTO are no different to the EU we swap one set of regulations for another. Same goes for testing we swap CEN for ISO but in some cases CEN is ISO and of course we could bring back BS and the kite mark, totally pointless as really all the standards do is keep your PL insurer happy but liability cases tend to look at the highest standard and whether it is reasonable to test to it. Even then common sense doesn't always apply. Got to keep civil servants in jobs!

Socialists = millions of civil servants. Making millions of rules. And trying to control every tiny thing.
Capitalism, and free trade. Fire all the civil servants, and paper pushers unless they are protecting your property, safety, and prividing a safety net to protect those that cant. Everything else should be private.
