Pressure sores

Postby Irving » 20 Jul 2019, 10:40

Never had one in 6y and now I have a small 1.5cm 'cut' on back of thigh/buttock junction that doesn't want to heal. Not sure why it's happened but the skin is broken and tho it doesn't seem discoloured and blanches ok it's just not closing up. So going to treat it like a pressure ulcer and stay off it a few days... What a pain...

BM, get that DIY cushion design sorted ASAP :D

Those are often caused by heat and a little skin candida infection. Its not a pressure ulcer in that position I think. That hydrogel vetinary stuff from amazon cures that too.

You may be right, I had district nurse look at it and she reckoned it wasn't a pressure sore but wasn't very convincing. I'll get some of that hydrogen stuff...

BTW seems to be two threads, I got a MySQL error when I posted originally. Delete the other (later) one

How do you transfer from the chair? It could be shear caused by sliding not pressure.

I don't, I hoist as I don't have enough arm strength to transfer

I'm hoisted as well and we have to take care with the shower sling and shower chair. Are you sure that the mark appeared from being in the power chair?

Pretty sure. I think it's because the new chair cushion has a non-permeable cover unlike my J3 one so there was a gathering of warm dampness there; It was very obvious on the seat when lifted off. Thing that's what caused initial breakdown.

Heres an example of a fungal infection between toes because of damp, heat.

Looks like a cut or sore. In fact they can look wildly different. And be much bigger. Can just look like some redness in the groin or if overweight in folds of skin anywhere.

This is what kept me on my bed for 3 months and would not heal. :fencing
Till I tried no dressing at all, and allowed it to dry thoroughly, then treated with that vaginal candida cure - canistan. Since discovered that the vetinary stuff I linked kills fungal and all other infection including MRSA whilst keeping it moist so it heals faster. So now use that on all butt issues... And all other ones too.

A fungal, athletes foot image.
