Sick of cable internet providers?
Me too.
Why? Every month they increase prices, bill you for a bundled package including phone line (dont need one) and and extra for itemised bill, paper bill, an extra charge because you pay by cheque, and VAT, and a few other incidentals. My last bill was 54 uk pounds. Rising slowly from 32 a few years ago.

Final straw was when cable went down for 6 hours at midnight. And I was using my 4G Phone Sim in my laptop. I discovered that they have speeded up 4G considerably, even laid on my bed away from any window. Latency was hugely reduced from the typical 90ms a year or so back, to 37 to 42 ping times. Thats great. Its fast enough to not really be noticible. I used it all night.

Then I did a speed test. Its 4x faster near a window!

So wow. I just ordered a SIM only wireless dual band router. I mostly use 5.2ghz. THIS https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07 ... 1OLE&psc=1

Not the cheapest by far. But I know what I want. THIS sat on any window ledge in my house will give me around 4x as fast speeds as my laptop does with the same sim card on 4G. We dont need to wait for 5G.

I also ordered a card from the unlimited, all you can eat, 3 network. Its a 4+ sim, with no throttling, no limits, no fair use policy, no bandwidth or speed limits, etc. Its here: http://www.three.co.uk/Store/SIM/Plans_for_phones

So for 20 per month total inc VAT i can have broadband, no cable needed, for he whole house with a quality router. No phone line, no contracts (you can stop any time) and no worries about connectivity. You can have a pay as you go giff gaff sim sat around for 2 years (different network) actually in the shelf or in a laptop like mine in case it ever goes down.

Then I can have the pleasure of telling VIRGIN where to shove it. Whats more its got a higher upload speed than virgin. When 5G makes it here, I will swap out the router for a 5G capable one. Right now thats $$$$ not practical.

Lucky you have a mobile service that works near your home. Wouldn't work for me in darkest Dorset. No usable indoor signal within half a mile or so. I might be alive still by the time Elon Musk gets his satellite system up and running. It will be such a pleasure seeing him take all the existing phone companies to the cleaners!

Many routers have the option to add a high gain antenna, for long range LTE. So you need a man with a ladder and you will have full signal strength.

indoor https://www.amazon.co.uk/Antenna-Booste ... B0723BQZ6T

In out https://www.amazon.co.uk/Poynting-Omni- ... JKCZF19BXZ

So weak signal not an issue. If you can get any signal at all, even 1 bar in some corner of your house, this will allow 5 bars and high speed connection. Seriously. You may need to only add it indoors next to a window, but if not, outside on a facia or somewhere will give you all the signal you need. Call your local antenna guy...

Search for unlimited data, sim only, new york. If it does 4G and or 4g+ (twice as fast) you are good to go.

See what options exist. Beware ones that throttle the speed if you use too much data. The one I just ordered does not. Full speed all the time.

In the US it appears that all internet capable LTE cards without limits cost about the same as a kidney.

I can do it here from 10 a month, for 6 months, increasing to 20 uk pounds a month ongoing. And zero limits at all.

In the US its THREE TIMES as much!

For $60, the best deal you can get in the US is the Unlimited plan from MetroPCS. It may be expensive, but you'll get unlimited calls, unlimited texts and unlimited LTE internet. Moreover, you can use your device as a hotspot to share up to 8GB of connection with other cell phones.

Yes. So do we. But you also have corruption which is not capitalism. In fact corruption is always less under a capitalist system when compared to the opposite, the socialist system. The only thing socialism really excels at is corruption. They are all really good at that.

Think about it. Under capitalism you cant be price gouged. Because that means theres a huge profit to be made. So ANY company looking to make a profit can step in and provide a better or cheaper service/product etc. In a FREE MARKET. If that doesent happen then you dont have a free market. You have the opposite. Its controlled, one way or another. Thats the OPPOSITE to a free capitalist market.

even unlocked routers i find dont always work in USA - it says unlocked - but the has restrictions - where and what service it works on here

so its really not unlocked - it seems easier to get this going there in the UK - its a racket here - they all restrict you one way or another

that Tmobile plan for 60 - gets you 35gig at most before they slow you down - it is unlimited but NOT high speed unlimited -

i will call tomorrow the other plan i found for 25 dollars high speed unlimited - i bet i will find out its not true as they say -

if thats the case - i will switch my phone to them now and get another Sim card plan for the 4G router if i can find one -

But you claim capitalism that causes corruption. It does not. Quite the opposite, it helps prevent it. For e.g in the way I just explained above because market distortions leave gaps for others to jump in. That ruins their little price fixing game.

People cause corruption, and socialism is the grand master of corruption because it is in itself corrupt by its very nature. And no free market to prevent it. You have it absolutely back asswards.

For e.g. What stops 3 in the UK, selling cards on the US market with way lower fully unlimited dats as they do here? If there was money to be made (your corrupt companies) they would do so! Unless some MARKET DISTORTION (the opposite to capitalism) prevents it. You corruption exists because theres no free market to prevent it.

Really?

Burgerman wrote:

And you said: we got Capitalism here.

Which is the single thing that increases options, provides the cable or phone internet systems and the hardware at highest quality, lowest cost for consumers, and makes it exist at all. And that forces choice and the best product for the lowest prices. It also PREVENTS high prices because any other company can then undercut them and make a good profit. So any area or price fixing does not work in a FREE TRADE CAPITALIST SYSTEM. They just price themselves out of business. So as I said you have everything reversed, and you DID blame capitalism for your high prices. You did not blame corruption. Market distortion by gov interference etc. Capitalist free markets make corruption impractical and fail.
All ISMs seem to be open to corruption.
Greed, as in my Sig Line, I believe leads to corruption.

All businesses and all people are naturally greedy. Free markets actively prevent it. High prices = less business, and more players in the market. Thats why more capitalism both prevents corruption and improves your standards of living. It is driven by a will to earn more money. Your greed. Without it you would be driving a trabant. If you could afford one. And if you could get one.

I've had a 3 all you can eat data package for years, originally was £30 pm but now down to £20.There used to be tethering restrictions but they seem to have removed them. Only downside is coverage, it is limited and I can't get decent speeds at home. It wasn't bought for that just for time in hospital to keep up with shows that weren't on hospital TV. Phone coverage is not good either so check carefully before buying.

I don't pay for my fibre it is supplied by a friend with an internet/server business so ain't bothered about 3 crappy signal at home. Never paid for broadband/fibre for over 10 years.

3 has a coverage and signal strength by postcode/house number page. It shows how good a signal you will get (for a phone with a crap antenna in a metal shell) and if you will be able to use 3, 4, 4+ at your home. The home base wifi routers have much better antennas, are sited next to a window anywhere in your house becaise no cable system or phone system to connect. So if you can get 3 at all on a phone you will get it 10x better with a router. plus most have an external sma connector for a high gain or external antenna. So unless you literally live underground it should never be much of a problem. A 35db gain antenna, externally, should be able to see many 10s of miles.

searching around for Sim Card Plans and Routers to work with - this wont work here in the states as good as the deal you get there in UK

first off - all say unlimited but then slow you down after a certain amount of Gigs used - some 15GB some 35GB etc, so that wont work good for using it on the computer internet full time - trying to find a router that works here is another story - they may work on some networks and not all - trying to get the answers is like pulling teeth -

if i try this - i will be taking a chance if i find a router first even unlocked routers are set to work in certain areas also - not all work here in the US - best plan maybe no less than $60 a month to 80 - then find a router to make it work - in that case - my cable bill is the same then

i am sure the router sim card road is a good idea - looks like in the UK - you get the best deals -

come here you see how fast those deals disappear cheers

ALMOST Everywhere. Its all a matter of degree.
Theres no totally capitalist system anywhere.
Theres no totally socialist system anywhere.

Just left or right, depends HOW left or right. If you have no healthy broadband or sim network competition, then you are too far left.

its not a free market as you would say or should be - its all a racket - and they all seem to work together anyway - you not getting UNLIMITED HIGH SPEED here the way you would think you should - it says that and they tell you yes you are - just leave out that little detail that says you dont -
also couldnt get an answer as to which Feq. bands the network runs on -

knowing the bands - can help find a router that works on those bands - after repeating myself - still they dont have that info. - just say on T mobile network thats it - either way it wont be cheaper to do it that way for me at the moment - just to know it can be done at least to some degree but would eat up 35Gig of data in a few hours if on the computer all day -

then they throttle it down or slow it down to 3G if not even 2G - it should just be the rule that you can get any provider you want and everything should be wired for all of them - - that would be a free market where i can call any other provider and choose - its not like that here - you be surprised - and forget about your prices there

In a free capitalist market thats EXACTLY what would happen.

Its illegal here for the different companies to get together and fix areas, or pricing at the consumers disadvantage so they can avoid competition. It would be stopped. It has been in fact. Thats why I can use dozens of different ISPs (probably a hundred?) and all share the cable or phone line systems.

Likewise SIM cards. I use GiffGaff as its all online and its cheap! Theres no phone help, its all community run. And pay as you go. My phone bill was 25 pounds last year total. It uses the O2 network, but is a seperate company.

3 is a SIM and network providor. It offers absolutely no limits, and high speed for 10 per month (first 6 months) and 20 a month ongoing. The routers are able to tale all the sims, and some take 2 sims just in case... Other networks may limit the bandwith or limit the data etc. But not all. Soon they will all have to offer totally unlimited at the same price to compete. The beauty of competition!

YOU and all the rest of you should be lobbying your politician for FREE COMPETITION on the ISP and on SIM network providors. Because obviously they are working together to try and scam the public. Thats not freedom. Your country is supposed to be free! You are looking corruption in the face and allowing it.

nothing is free - its all bullshit - and they are all in on it - in one way or another - and yes its illegal to have a lock on things etc, but its done - just a different way - - if you try it its illegal - if they do it - its fine - good luck getting your politications to do anything good for the people - its a career job for them with very good benefits - they only make believe they care a bit when its time for elections -

even if some do care and willing - they wont be able - many many walls to climb - wont happen - its a great idea - router sim card - its better than nothing if you had to do that - but its not cost effective in the end - it would be just to make a point and cancel them - so they can try to get you back with better deals etc,

i will still keep it in mind and if i do find a router - and sim card plan that can work - i try it - odds not in my favor - i pay about $65 or should be that amount - for another 6 months maybe - it will then go up - to what who knows - in the past i said - i had another provider which worked on the same lines - then at some point things changed - and no longer able to have them - and cant get them again now - there was nothing to install new etc, - its all happening on the top - making the rules that benefit them.

Its all bullshit because you allow it!

I just did a postcode search for ISPs that will provide me a service. I got 76 results. 8 pages of companies dying to offer me a deal. From 18 pounds a month up to silly amounts. All offering something different. Thats not including wireless providers, sattelite, or anything else. Just cable.

If you dont have the same than ask whatever your equivelent to our monopolies or fair trade practice or a few others to deal with it. In the UK they have the power to fine, or even break up monopolies or groups that are price fixing, etc. Thats why I have 8 pages of ISPs at 1/4 the cost you all pay. Our system does not allow one big cartel of companies to operate in a way that cheats the consumers. Heres another such legal entity that prevents exactly what you are seeing in the US. https://www.gov.uk/government/organisat ... -authority

Here is where you can report such things in the UK https://www.gov.uk/guidance/tell-the-cm ... et-problem
And they really do sort out unfair trade practices. Anything that prevents FREE TRADE is always bad for the country. So they DO actually do something about it.
