Hi BM I was hoping this thread is okay?

Has anyone watched anything good lately? I recently downloaded and watched Chernobyl which is good. I've also got the Johnny English movies to watch, so plan to start them this week.

If anyone's got any recommendations, (or what to avoid) I'd appreciate it, I can never find anything decent to watch.

I have got Game of Thrones first series on my Mac, but I've read the book so not sure it'll hold my interest.

I also started the 10 part docu series on the vietnam war. It's good with excellent photo stills, but is a bit of a slog.

Depends on your sources really.

Where do you get your content?

I use rather a lot of different sources. It also rather depends on your interests. I like anything where I can learn, physics, etc and scifi movies. Not so musc any series with odd exceptions.

Do you do the usual netfix/amazon/and all the free movies sites etc?

Hi BM, I did have Netflix for about a year, and Amazon Prime for 1 months free trial. I think Netflix is good value but I exhausted all the sort of stuff I like, although I've not had it for 6 months so i guess there new stuff on there now.

I didn't think so much of Amazon as a lot of stuff didn't seem like it was free which I couldn't understand? Why pay a monthly fee for a streaming site and then pay again for their premium stuff? But maybe I wasn't understanding the Amazon Prime 'model'.

I also like documentaries and docu-dramas best. But there's not so many of them of them on the streaming sites, a lot of netflix stuff is a bit american, and a bit too much teenage stuff for my tastes.

Burgerman wrote:and all the free movies sites etc?

I don't know of any free movie sites?

Now I've got a VPN I tend to download stuff I think might be good from torrent sites. Or just flick around the terrestrial catchup sites.

Channel 5 and Yesterday sometimes has good documentaries for free.

Theres hundreds.

This for e.g. has thousands. You can download torrents, choose resolution, etc. But I dont know how well you will do as it requires an understanding. Pop ups, and having to click the same thing twice, many different source in case one is down etc. Plus I am using my skills and a decent adblocker. You are on a damned mac. Which will do god only knows what.

Plus I understand whats going on, and what to do, what not to do and I never see ads or popups...

See if you can get this to work. It does. Maybe you dont!
https://ymovies.to/
Close pop ups. Or use a proper browser like firefox, and get some proper ad blocking software and learn to configure it. Like ublock origin. But non of that stuff lokely works right on a apple.
Go to the top and look at the menus and lists of movies for e.g.

As for amazon, SOME of the movies are RENT, or BUY, or most are play as part of amazon PRIME. So you must sign up to amazon prime free for a month trial.

How? For US amazon use your VPN, in the US... Same with US netflix. Same in other countries. But be in the right country. To join for a free month PRIME or NETFLIX it will want you email address (use a throwaway one) and a credit card. Use a CARD GENERATOR for that. Theres many variations, like https://ccardgenerator.com/

Then when that free month runs out, sign up again, new throwaway email, new month free trial... Over and over on about half a dozen sites and countries. Theres no shortage of free months...

Also many sites like the one in the above posts link dont need any of that... Just watch.

https://www.streamgaroo.com/ Some works, some doesent, some works occasionally, some always works.
And these sites disapear, new ones pop up daily. Weekly. Etc.

Chernobyl was excellent!

Lets see ....

I really enjoyed HBO's Rome. Too bad only had two seasons. Don't bother with the BBC edit of this show, the messed it up! Watch the US HBO version.

Breaking Bad

Narcos

The Wire

I'll think of more. Let me know if you need any help sourcing anything. I got a server with a fiber optic internet connect.

It's series of individual short dramas by different writers/directors exploring various themes in a dark way (hence the title) . As such there's obviously some variability. Some just confuse and need a repeat viewing or two, some really make you think. Keep an open mind; I enjoyed all of them but YMMV. Although individual there's an occasional cross-reference and there's a neat twist at the end of series 2 so best to watch in sequrence.

Did anyone else like Counterpart? I had trouble getting series 2, in the end I used SBS with my VPN set to australia as you had to be there to use SBS.
The adverts were interesting!

For the uninitiated, here is a good primer on Plex.

https://www.theverge.com/2019/7/23/2069 ... aming-wars

If anyone wants to try my Plex server, send me your email and I'll send an invite. My library is rather small at the moment but it'll grow.

Thank you BM I've booked the other sites you mention. That's a clever idea re using numerous 1 month's free trials in different countries , I've never heard of a credit card generator. Also do you know of a throwaway email address generator, and also a throwaway mobile telephone would be handy if such a thing exists? As some websites require text message confirmation

Thank you guys for the recommendations, I've seen a few of things you recommend. I quite fancy 'The Wire' and you mentioning reminds me of that series The Sopranos that I've heard of. I really do appreciate all the recommendations and am jotting them all down on a list.

I also like the Netflix series El Chapo? I quite like the foreign stuff but don't like reading subtitles or activating dubbing. I tend to mainly watch TV in the evening so by then am a bit tired to read subtitles.

The last series I enjoyed before I watched Chernobyl was The Leaning Tower about 9/11. It's really good with some good acting and I would recommend it to anyone who hasn't seen it yet.

I'll send a PM Gnomatic

ALL webmail!

Also do you know of a throwaway email address generator

Make a new hotmail, google, or ANY email address as long as its not real email, and is just webmail. Use it to sign up, and to verify then never touch it again.

You are an internet virgin. Credit card generators all allow you to sign up, to verify age, etc etc. As all teens know well. So they can sign up to stuff that requires age verification. Like amazon and netflix, or any of the sights that want to give a free month like newspapers, or various subscription services, many porn sites etc.

Web mail allows you to make a new email, and use it only to verify an account. Every new IP, email, fake card number lets you do another month...

So endless free months... In any country when used with a VPN.

You can probably tell that I dont waste money on much. Prefer to keep it for beer.

Even with a fake credit card generator, and a fake email adress (invented one in my head) and a US VPN IP address that site said, unknown problem. Maybe I needed a different IP to match the state on my card...
