Google Assistant through BT headset?

I heard that GA on android phone can work through a BT headset. That means I am able to ask GA in my phone to do something (e.g making a call to someone) through my BT headset. To use GA I will have to buy a new phone. So I want to make sure if GA truly works. Did anybody here try GA with a 'normal' BT headset (not special modern headsets with GA built-in)?

Oh my TV has that built in. I turned it off. And blutacked its mic.

I have a vanilla Bluetooth headset. On the one I have, GA does not work through the headset. Just the phone itself.

snaker, that option is enabled on my phone, a OnePlus 6.
