Make a short XLR plug to cigarette lighter socket with a 10A fuse fitted, then you can use the above to power any 12v devices upto 20A.

Steve

not bad - i have to see what kind of lights she has and how they are suppose to work - so you could cut the cigarette end - and wire it to an XLR plug and thats it - add the fuse in between the box and XLR plug - ?

then she has to keep it plugged in the Joystick to make it work all the time ? i have to see what she has - i was told it was motorcycle lights -

if she asked me - i would have just ordered the 5V models and make it easy with simple cable - if the watt. is not more than 7A like BM says is the limit - then should be fine with the cable i found - if its more - then i dont know the next move

See my replies in RED expresso. If you really want to use a powerbank, then you'd need an USB plug with 18AWG wires. Like below...

this is what she has - now i am more confused with this one - she wants to connect this to the chair battery - which maybe the 200ah pack i built - i really dont want to connect it to the chair battery - i have one spare XT 90 connector on the pack thats free and 24V out -

i am worried that i will mess this up for her - but main concern is the 200ah pack - i would rather run it off a external battery like the cell phone -

with this light kit above - how can i do it correctly for her ?

Well that's simple, use the XT90 to power a 24v to 12v step-down converter like I linked to. Or wire the lights in series (2 sets).

the item with the Cigarette plug - i cut that off and wire a XT 90 to it ?

that should be it then ?

i have to see about wiring them in series - i see alot of them - i dont want to mess it up and ruin the whole kit for her -

if the step down works easy - i can do that then ?

Yep, cut off both cigarette plug/socket. Then XT90 plug to 24v in and 12v out to LEDs. Simples!

Yes that would be ok too. The 10A version cost more which is strange! czy

ok that may be the best bet then

i rather not connect it off the pack to be honest - dont know over the long run how it will affect it - etc,

i would have rather connect it to a battery pack for the Cell phones -

It'd be ok if you fitted a switch so she could turn off the step-down converter when the lights are not used.

Yes, but you might as well get the 20A one for the same price! And you can power stuff from it like a tyre inflator.

ok but nothing else will be powered from this - once its set up and connected thats it

i just want to make sure its done correct and not have issues for her later -

do i really need a switch for it or the remote to power the lights is enough

Nope, remember the step-down converter draws power constantly if left connected. So an on/off switch is essential.

Not much. I have a 48V to 12V ONE ON MY bm3. It draws just 4.5mA when not running anything. Which means its OK for weeks on end.

Told you dozen times. This gum sized converter is great.

< 3A but voltage adjustable. 7 -- 9V is best for 12V LED gadget.

Never got blown LED since.

Only twenty pee. :argument

made me want to see how this works - i purchased this one - to put under a shelf in my kitchen - one long strip covers the whole shelf

i can plug it in or use a battery power bank -

this or similar would be better for a chair and not touch chair battery

Yes. They are all leds in parallel with a resistor for each one. When the strip is long it draws more amps. But you gonna look like a tarts handbag.

An LED is not rated for "volts". It is simply a one way valve for electricity tat lights up!

If you try to pass electricory in one direction nothing will happen its almost open circuit.
If you try to pass electricery in the other direction it becomes a short circuit. Will draw infiite amps. And light up and blow...

If you add in a resistor, then this limits the amps, and allows the LED to glow with correct brightness. So you need a higher value resistor at 24v (more ohms) than you do at 12v. Whats the correct value? You look at the LED recommended mW. And use ohms law to decide which is correct. Its not remotely critical.

When you buy a 12v or 24v rated LED like that string you link to, someone else decided what value to use for you. So you can just add another series resistor to them, to dim them a little. So they become safe for a higher voltage. Its really that simple.

I see when I get it. This one is 5v. To use with a cell phone battery pack of it works fine. This can be used on a chair with external battery. And leave chair lack alone

Add 1 resistor, and run it from 24v and take so little power you dont need to worry about it.

Use a cellphone power brick. Because that will go in a pocket of your jeans/left/right side, whatever is convenient, and come indoors for charging between outdoor rides. I have winter weather heat pads running off a power brick, it's very convenient - just don't run the power brick right down. I once got a complicated usb thingy for running things out of the wheelchair arm xlr plug, but what a pain, always tangling and twisting wires, I soon got rid of it.
