At last i think i have found a replacement for my jazzy 1103, a Sunrise salsa m, i wondered if anyone on here
has owned or has expirience of this chair.

Not directly. What do you use it for? Indoors mostly, or outdoor use? It has small batteries, small amp controller, small casters etc so may not suit unless you are a lightweight and spend much time indoors.

Thanks for that seems it wont be a good replacement, as it would be used indoors and outdoors and iam
not a lightweight being 13 st and 6ft . so i will have to keep looking.
but would be thankful for any suggestions of a suitable mid wheel drive chair.

Not sure you'll see much on this site about suitable mid-wheel drives... The common opinion here is that there are a lot of issues with mid-wheels that make them less than ideal, even under the best of times. Some do like the X-5 but that is a chair that tends to be overly wide... If you look on the main site, there is an area where BM gives his reviews on a lot of different chairs (He is generally NOT impressed...)

Its R or M configuration. But still smallish batteries and controller casters etc.

But I dont think 13 stone is exessive. Its about half my weight!

I weighed about 12 stone when I first got my Salsa, though I have lost a lot of weight now. I have been termed by the OT and wheelchair repair team as a 'heavy user' and they don't mean my weight. I walk the dog for a couple of hours twice a day over fairly rough terrain, attend lectures at university, go shopping and am able to be in the chair for most of the day. As prior to having this wheelchair I was only able to spend 2-3 hours a day in my previous chair, this is testimony to how much better the Salsa is. :D

The X5 is only a little wider than my chair. But its this combined with the length, as well as higher seat, and the casters swinging about behind that bother me. Its better off road than mine is, but a bit cumbersome indoors. Try one you might like it.

I don't like "big" where it isn't needed - so I don't think I'd like the X-5, though I wouldn't mind trying one just to say that I have...

My comment about you being "NOT impressed" wasn't so much about the X-5 as it was a "capsule version" of your many reviews of the chairs you've looked at...

Well I am a bit spoiled! Having about 5 custom built chairs here to compare them too!

But yes, in the main bought chairs are pretty crap!

The X5 or newer V6 (THAT I HAVE NOT TESTED but have examined changes and specs) are too big indoors. They are claimed 28 inches wide. And actually measure about half inch more. My chairs are under 26 with same tyres. 27 with even wider 6.00 tyres.

But its not just about the width. They are also long. And have a huge bit sticking out behind you that mashes up your mates feet at the bar, your furniture, and your vans insides. And they are an inch or so higher. The extra inch in width/height, and the considerable extra length (with footplate(s) combine to make them feel much bigger in a house/van than my own chairs do to the point of it being a problem. EG they cannot get onto thye ramp/through thye resturant in my local pub.

But off road they have greater pitch stability, where mine wheelies or tips you out of the rear on a uphil section! Mine is better suited to an active paraplegic, and X5 / V6 chair is better suited to someone with less control/abilities like a quadraplegic, and someone with a big house or van.

Every inch on a powerchair absolutely matters on a powerchair indoors. Mine is minimised in 1001 places to make it as compact as humanly possible. And its very lively/tippy...

A Quickie Groove would likely be a better choice than a Salsa, if you can't get an F55, what what exactly are your needs?

Well I have been looking around for another power chair and I have been looking at this Sunrise Salsa on a web site but it didn't give much details about the powerchair, but now having read Burgerman opinions on them I'm not bothering but I did come across a Quickie Groove of which I'm very impressed about it apart from the price quite expensive I thought, but again I'm taking Burgermans advice he has said in the past that he dislikes mid wheel drives although I have had a quantum 600 part xl as I am a large person for eighteen months now and it's done everything I wanted it to do apart from being so bloody boreing on four mph, we all know that pathway speed is 4mph but I just cannot cope with such low speeds anymore I would love to build my own as I think I could manage apart from electricts but I have no place to build anything I have a small shed enough room just to charge my power chair up that's my problem when I think about Burgerman and the F55s he runs and the pictures I have seen on his web site he has worked so hard to achieve what he has today his knowledge for most powerchairs is unbelievable but just getting back to the Quickie Groove did you know it's built in the UK I think, but the speed is 8mph the same as a scooter ? regards lambchops83

I build mine in my bedroom. You dont need a lot of room, just organisation!

Quickie grooves are 4, 6 or 8 mph.

F55s are 6 mph. If you are heavy, 8mph probably a bad idea, unless you go to lithium batteries though.

At last iam getting my new chair the sunrise salsa on monday, of course i will have to go through the W.C.S driving test
before i can use it outside, I tried to tell them that i have been using my present chair for the last 3 years in and out doors
its the dreaded health and safety joke again, anyway i will post a review in a few weeks.

and it is very usable and i havnt taken any doors out yet :D it steers where you point it ,
now iam just waiting for a few more parts first a gutter armrest then electric leg raisers
and finally , the locking pin so i can take it in my van, so nothing major to do.

Hello all, I have just been assessed for a power wheelchair by my local NHS service and it seems I qualify. The chair I am getting is a new sunrise quickie salsa m. I had a short assessment, test in my Home and it seems to do the job, its got a good turning circle and seems to comfortable. Has anyone got any thoughts or tips regarding this model, any advice would be very welcome
Thanks B

I have a Salsa R2 coming from the NHS, anyone tried or have one? I suspect it will have the usual programming issues which I'll have to correct.
