To really accomplish a reasonable track drive system'
would require a variable speed governor
With either a large enough generator and motor system
OR A hydraulic pump and motor system,
with the same variable governor system
Mechanical drive system with clutches would be a difficult and large system
Lots of chains and sprockets.
