Interesting review. However you dont mention the reason for all these positioning designs and options, and air cells, gel, foam cushions are primarily designed and have evolved for pressure relief, as in specifically for prevention of pressure ulcers in for eg paraplegic, quadriplegic patients. Comfort doesent enter into it since they cannot feel anything like myself. Or something like a luxury car seat from a jaguar or something would be an easy and better complete "comfort'' solution.

So when you talk about comfort thats a different and subjective thing. And the most comfortable cushion may be a long way from the one that maps to the best pressure sore prevention. Ie a jaguar car seat may be useless for that. And comfortable is also a strange word. What does this actually mean? Less sweating on hot days, less pain in specific areas? Less vibration making its way to your spine, where air would be better than gel for e.g?

There are many people, such as Glitterfairy and my daughter Rachel who need both pressure-sore protection AND positioning. I will guarantee that if the positioning is off, Rachi is decidedly uncomfortable. Rachi does have a Roho quadtro select, but there is also a high U-shaped plastic piece around the back and 2 sides as well as a Jay abductor block slipped between an extra cushion cover and the Roho cover (as well as large supports for her torso on spring-steel arms, 4-point automotive seat/shoulder belt etc.).

I dont deny it. Positioning also affects or can affect pressure sore issues. But the two things are actually different.

Comfort is a description that doesent make much sense to me when talking about pressure relieving cushions as this is the primary design purpose - pressure relief or rather lessening the 3 points where this occurs causing ulcers. As such they are designated, low risk, medium risk, high risk etc.
They may or may not also be comfortable, depending on many things, inc positioning devivces, and seat backs but not least your definition of "comfortable".Because its a broad term and can mean a lot of things.

E.g, most people would find a large comfy armchair or that seat from a luxury car more comfortable, dep on your definition. But much worse for pressure reduction on your 3 main points where ulcers are an issue.

What I am saying is that medium or high risk cushions are not designed for comfort whatever this means, but for ulcer prevention, and will likely not match a comfy armchair/car seat. But the review never mentions the primary design purpose.

Rachi does have a Roho quadtro select

Me too. Sent kindly by the UK distributor for free to try. I dont use it because. Transfering via a board with no hard edges is very hard to do. And because air compresses and its hard to know I am not bouncing my bones off the seat pan when driving off a curb or if pressure drops. So I fear using it. And I also worry about deflation as I am often covvered in metal swarf, scalpels for cutting, drills, sharp bits of metal, hot solder that falls... Otherwise its probably the best option. But it lacks stability. I need the hard edges, hard front of the jay2, jay3, jay fusion or whatever its called in various countries.

As for comfort? Depends what you mean. Sitting still its got no hard edges, so is probably the least "painful" ?? And best for sweat on hot long days. But offers the least support. So you are not ideally positioned sitting on a bunch of balloons. You move about! Which means less sheer but more banging about between arms or moving forwards.

The ca. 60 cm high abs containment I've added around the roho does help for stability. Knock-on-wood we've had NO punctures in the roughly 10 years she's been using it, but it's not often used machine shop either. It also does have a multi-layer covering - the roho cover (slippery for shear protection) and an Ellen-made over cover with two layers of heavy fabric with a plastic pee barrier between them. Before that she had a Jay GS, but did start to get pressure sores with that, while the roho could be adjusted to 100% green with a pressure mapping. It's actually easy for a helper to check the pressure - stick a hand in a plastic bag, slide it knucles-down between butt and cushion and adjust pressure for maximum immersion without knuckles hitting the seat pan. Add a touch if wanted for a little more space for rough-road driving.

Yes. Horses for courses. If its working keep doing it. No good for me because of transfer problems.

Now if I decided to try using one of the three socialist medical organisation's (The wasteful NHS, that's always claiming poverty and after extra money from business/taxpayers) $2000 fancy electric patient lifts I had forced upon me (in spite of telling them many times to save their cash as I dont use them. And had already got one!), then I might give a roho quadra a go again. But thats a slow, difficult nightmare to do. And I cant possible waste all that time messing about with slings and hoists 4 times a day! What a rave that is.

interesting to find a place where people are innovating and improving things for others. something i saw; japanese use, buckwheat hulls, in pillows. very nice .
my roho is bad for stability, kind of rolls one out. my son put a long narrow buck wheat hull stuffed cushion accross the front of my seat under the roho, it never works itself out and it works great and feel very stable, never have to keep getting back in my chair like i used to. made me think that a cushion could be made up filled with this stuffing and i could give the roho the heave ho.

Of course you could always just set the seat dump at a steeper angle and shorten the seat to footplate distance slightly.
