Hi all the components came today i assembled it .it worked first time. I can only read the settings and faults. But I cannot write to the controller. It says lite version. And it also says dongle lite. Would this be the reason as to why I cannot write new settings to the speed.

If this is the case any idea how i change change it to another version. In the drop down menu it only says lite.

Good evening all, my name is Jim and I am new to this forum.

I have a friend who has a “Drive Sport Rider 8mph Mobility Scooter” which contains an “RHINO2 DS160” controller.
I have offered to see if I can tweak some settings for him.

I can see from this thread I will need to connect to the controllers 4 pin mini Molex, via the orange circuit, correct 232 to USB convertor and the correct software.
I would be most grateful if someone could help me with the correct software?

Regards
Jim

Software is not a problem and yes the RHINO 2 requires the use of a DWIZ-ADAPT or a homemade interface ...check your P.M.

Vero / stripboard version of Anubis schematic.... note there is a small mod to the original schematic.

This fits into a 9v PP3 Battery holder box.

Hello Gents,
I made an adapter from the schematic given earlier and brought an 340 RS232 adapter.
I can get a response from the controller (dynamic rhino 2), this can be seen from the attached picture. The scope probe is on the Rx pin of the RS232 convertor. The first transmitted frame is from the PC and the controller response frame does not go to 0V, however I do not get any response from the (special) software.
Does anybody have any ideas what’s wrong?

Jim

Need 2 probes,...i guess one on TX and other on RX....(because you cant possibly have read TX and RX on the RX line alone...)
...or maybe you can given the XLR, sorry rusty but i thought it split the signal out on the middle and one of the power pins ?

Reading the PC side with the split signals might be more reliable.

Settings for XLR side are
XLR settings for logic capture.png

That is my data capture from tapping the factory plug/special software to my Dynamic Shark, i dont expect it to look like yours.

But it can take some time, a minute or so for the Wizard software to cycle around its codes at the bottom before it sync's green.

The CH340 is mostly OK ...You will get better and more consistent results with an FTDI based USB-RS232 lead.

Double and triple check the Molex and Interface connections..... post a pic and I can look.

If i can, over the weekend i will build up one of the boards from Anubus, Dirty Cheap PCB...that have been sitting in the shed for a year waiting to be built up...
And do a capture, its sure to be different but I am interested to see what it spits out.

Hi Jim, its much cheaper to get direct from Dirty Cheap PCB... (or post your own to woody per his offer)

From experience,
I got some Shark Emulators boards from them built them up and posted to Woody,, it was not a cheap exercise (very worth while though).

Postage to anywhere OS is expensive from Australia.

I had forgotten to build a board up, i will try to remember banghead

Picked up the parts to build up Anubus's orange adapter board today, hoping to have enough function to get it assembled over the weekend.

... I have the OEM kit, its just an exercise for me.
I am interested in reading it and eventually getting the software to work with my emulator in place.

Ive a USB to RS485 cable i want to look into being able to direct connect, if possible, to the data bus on the emu.

Trouble is, the weather here in Australia at the moment...is awesome 8-)

Hello again gecbiker & Woody,
Thank you for you reply's and I apologise for my slow responses.
When I built up my board I did not have the same parts as per drawing, so I have used similar transistors and make up the Zeners and resistors. So I am not sure if it is this or some other problem.
Unfortunately it is not helped by the controller being in use elsewhere. So every time I want to test it I have to arrange an meet and then decamp to the side of the road with my laptop and scope!
So for me it would be so much better if someone else could verify (and debug/fix it/build another) on their controller.
Woody i would like to take you up on your kind offer, pm sent.

Testing later tonight but its built, fingers crossed it works first go.
Anubis Orange Adapter.png

USB to RS232 with 340chip, mounted semi exposed so i can attach the Logic Analyzer probes.

Ive the OEM kit, so i will be able to check
- factory USB to RS232, Anubis board / read data.
- ebay USB to RS232 factory Orange adapter / read data.

Ill be doing it on my Shark Controller, i don't expect it will be the same for others, even other model power modules.
...so this may well be a pointless exercise, hopefully it helps someone.

...didnt work first go...or second...or third.

Ebay cable with factory Orange adapter gets to Yellow on the Wizard software but disconnects nearly immediately.
This is on Windows 10 using a USB3 port, ill try other ver of windows/ports.

OEM RS232 cable gets the joystick into 'connected to programmer' mode but will not connect to wizard software.

Very good chance i have the wires from the Orange adapter to the RS232 plug/cable mixed up, i'll test with continuity meter tomorrow, only went off the colours ..and thats Russian roulette as we all know.

The cheap ebay RS232 cables can often be problematic.

NOTE:- With the Anubis board the pin marked TX goes to the TX of the RS232 ...& of course it follows that RX goes to RX .....rather than the standard protocol of RX < TX & TX > RX.

Fixed up the RS232 wiring and replaced the caps...i had .1uf instead of 10uf.
Ive just noticed that Anubis uses a 1W or so power resistor at R5 (and i dont)

So maybe i popped the components, its not working, Ive no idea why.
Ill build another up in a few days with the power resistor and see how it goes.

Actually the spec is 0.5W ....

I'm using 1/4 watt on my slightly modified version.

It has the addition of R8 another 820 ohm together with an additional zener.

I have also seen issues with using USB 3.0 ports instead of USB 2.0 - they are supposed to be backwards compatible, but I've seen times when some devices worked fine on USB 2.0 and not on 3.0 ports....

Well there you go, i put a regular signal diode in place of the Zenner at 9v2

I cant even buy 10uf ceramic caps here in Oz, so used BiPolars but today ordered a pack of 500 ceramic's .1uf to 10uf (nothing smaller available).
...very glad i read the schematic...eventually hanged
