Monitors are not related to ism  That starving time was over long time ago.

I tried to connect PC/laptop to a 32inch LED TV. The result was ... bad, that TV could not be used as a monitor. Maybe that was because both devices did not have the same resolution.

Actually they are. And everything else is too. The whole standard of living, the prosperity of society, the freedom of choice, and the buying power for everything. The west is richer because they are more open, more free trade, far more capitalist which just means free trade. And it takes 50 years to recover from the damage caused by socialism and "planned" economies. At least. You may not be starving now, but theres a long way to go before 65 inch flat screen TVs and 30 inch monitors, are relatively cheap and common in many houses.

A quote from the World Bank:

Vietnam’s shift from a centrally planned socialist system to a market economy has transformed the country from one of the poorest in the world into a lower middle-income country. Vietnam now is one of the most dynamic emerging countries in East Asia region.

Give it time for capitalism to work. And you will all have swimming pools and holiday homes and rollex watches... And UHD TVs... And lowered floor minivans!

Incidentally you need to set the PC resolution to match the TV. And turn off the PC monitor.

Dear snaker, BM is correct.
Download the best single book on economics free here:

OLED 55 TV as a monitor. Report 4 months on...

Zero burn in issues so far. Tested on all primary colours etc. None, nothing, just an absolutely great screen with absolute total blacks, and superb deep colours.

Problems? Very hard to configure all the TV settings correctly. Get one wrong and it looks terrible! And theres a lot! Get it correct and perfection. And likewise very hard to configure the true type settings, and you need to set it to monochrome true type in the registry. Having done this, which took a week to figure out, also perfection. I now have a saved registry file of settings just in case!

Would I go back to a pair of Dell 30 inch pro monitors? Not a chance in hell! This thing is about twice as good quality, and easier to see and has a massive resolution. So much desktop space that I never run out. :dance

And its price has increased. Slightly. https://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/tv-and-ho ... 8-pdt.html

I see. Same superb everything as last year, same hardware/screen and the added google crap that I dont want... Dont let that bother you. You wont use any of that smart TV rubbish as a PC monitor. And you simply cannot get better! And it might get cheaper!

Now comes w/ Google Assistant built in. Pretty cool. Set it up correctly and basically control your whole home by voice.

Hate smart phones. Had several. Dead battery daily, whatever you touch they go off doing stuff you dont want or need... And if you drop it on the ground its broke.

A phone should have at least a months standby time, no camera, no internet and no apps of any kind, be small, very cheap, easy to see in daylight, and bounce off undamaged if you throw it at a wall. And have human sized buttons you can feel in the dark. And thats ALL it should do. :fencing

And I have one. I also have 3 smartphones with dead batteries thrown in a draw where they belong. I have real cameras for photos, a real PC, and a real laptop for computing and mobile use in the pub... Dont need a phone to try to pretend it can replace all of that. butred

You don't need a smartphone at all for Google Assistant to work!

I have the Amazon version(Alexa). These things are pretty great IMO. Control the thermostat, turn lights on and off, open and close the garage door, play music ect. etc. etc. All by voice.

Nothing wrong with that.

I like being able to control things by voice. The Google Assistant is better IMO than Amazon's version, if nothing else because Amazon's is backended by Microsoft's Bing search engine (which sucks), while Google Assistant is obviously backended by Google's search engine. They both work equally well for controlling things around the house.

Anyway, while many might not use that feature built into LG's new TV, I know I certainly would.

I've been using Google Assistant for a while now with the google home speakers dotted around.

Good points -

I can turn the lights on/off, dim them, & change the colour of them (Philips Hue), I can do this from anywhere I have internet connection, so in my car, from a hotel, from the beach, etc.

I can control the thermostat (Nest).

I can cast stuff to the TV from phone, PC, iPads, or just straight from the google speakers.

I can cast music to my HiFi.

Bad Points -

I have to say "OK Google" to make it all work rather than "slave"

Google Assistant is quite good, but it's not too bright yet.

SONY 65A1
As a TV yes. As a PC monitor maybe not. Be very careful. I looked at a lot of TVs before getting the LG. Some or most are awful or just acceptable a a monitor.

You must have the latest HDMI 2.2 or whatever it is, as well as PC mode that allows you to remove every trace of shrpening and all other auto image enhancements or it screws up fonts, colours, etc big style. And RGB/YCbCr 4:4:4 using HDMI Deep Colour. Thats cable, TV software, and settings in PC mode... The firmware/software settings are all designed for movies or moving images.

Where do you get 4k content to justify that - not common in the UK is it?

I am not using it as a TV most of the time, but as a PC monitor. So the Graphics card allows me to have that desktop resolution. So for photo editing etc, or having 10 things open at once its great!

And i downloaded a couple of 4K movies. They are extremely detailed, you can sit a foot away and see every wrinkle!

Earlier screenshot. 4k not scaled. And its this full most of the time... :worship this screen. Theres room to open stuff. And for photo editing, or movie editing, or for autocad its perfect! While watching TV/MOVIE and working, or reading, or charging, or all of that at once. And watching my neibours building work across the road on a very cheap fuzzy ip cam...
Of course you cant see the infinite contrast, true perfect blacks, or great built in sound here, or the 55 inches!

55 inch OLED as PC monitor burn in scare stories report!

Tested on 16 colours, at full brightness -- no sign of ANY burn in whatsoever. This is the 2017 version, 7V, and its absolutely beautiful as a PC monitor, with glorious colours, total blacks, zero light bleed, and quadHD and HDR capable, and so the bright bits are very bright. Photos are just amazing. Blacks are just totally black glass. The main reason I wanted it as I use photoshop and do a lot of digital photography. And colours dont change as you change angles even at extremes above/side etc. When comparing the same photos or even windows desktop, my previous 30 inch pro dells at 1200 pounds each look both like tiny, and dull, murky grey image things. Thrers simpy no comparison to any TV or PC monitor on the planet. Its still mesmerising a year later.

Downsides.
You dont need about a third of it! I find myself working in the centre 2/3rds. But thats no problem really other than wasted space. I lose icons and other stuff on screen. Theres so much screen that you sometimes have to have a look round to spot things! At least you only pay for pixels you are lighting up! So if you have a black screen, all this space isnt wasting eny power. And its just total gloss black like polished black glass. Things appear to be floating on it in space. Its hard to describe. But even with the worry of burn in, I could never go back to fuzzy muddy looking LCD screens.

And theres one big downside, YOU must configure it correctly. And it takes some time. Theres a lot of small things to get right.

You need to set dozens of TV parameters, to off. And set others to 100, Sharpening to zero, or to the exact correct setting or it treats the PC as a movie and tries to sharpen, use dynamic contrast, control frame rates, change colours etc and gamma and many other things. So you need a list of correct settings. And theres lots! Which I have. And you must use the correct HDMI latest spec cable type, Select PC for that input, disable HDR on the PC, to get the right colour depth. And change the font smoothing and true type settings in the windows registry as it doesent have any native settings in windows for the OLED subpixel layout. So fonts initially have colour fringes etc. Thats a pain to configure if you dont know what you are doing. And it does screen dimming on static images. So as you read something it starts to dim... It thinks its saving power if you freeze a movie... So you have to enter a service menu on the TV with a special remote, enter a password, turn off a thing called TPC (set 1 to 0) to disable this. After these setup issues its absolutely perfect as a monitor. At your own risk! I wouldnt swap it for anything. Nothing comes close. If you have the desk space.

Re: OLED

Last year there was a leak. Long story short, a year redecorating, new carpets (whole downstairs now dark grey ceramic or dark grey industrial carpet tiles) so that no wheelchair damage! And easy to swap out a few tiles if needed. Plus walls, etc. All done. Ordered new sofa and chairs. Need a TV for my lounge.

Need a 65 minimum, or as big as poss. Reality (prices of 75 or bigger) set in... :cussing

Then went to a large TV shop. Compared every type and make of TV available on the same 4k content. Now I am even more upset. :fencing

The OLED sony, and OLED LG 65 inch screens just blow all the rest clean out of the water. With any content. They have perfect bright colours at all viewing angles. All the rest inc the so called qled competition simply dont! They can be bright, but dont have the saturation. They all look like a reflection in a dirty puddle in comparison and dull. Unless directly in front at 90 degrees. They also do not do real blacks. Only blue/grey and localised areas. OLED do perfect deep blacks and uber saturated colours. It looks like someone removed a sheet of plastic or something out of the way.

So now in a quandry. Was going to buy a cheap brand 75 inch. But when compared, to a 65 inch OLED they are just crap! So I now need to save 2.5k for ANOTHER OLED LG Television! Only a bigger one. :argument

Shit bugger etc. Once you test and use OLED the rest are just crap! :ugeek:

My PC 55 inch OLED is still burn in free, and perfect! Best PC monitor on the planet completely regardless of cost. And when in bed its also the best 55 inch TV available for Netflix etc with 4k content!

Def LG as you WILL need a SERVICE REMOTE that allows you to enable and disable a few things in the service menue to use as a PC monitor and we know thanks to my early experiments that these choises are not available with some makes. Sony for e.g. makes a terrible PC monitor and various fancy local contrast and brightness algos dont work properly with a PC and cannot be disabled.

Go LG cheapest. Buy a EBay service remote. Then get back to me!
