Ring Termial Size - ?

Postby expresso » 12 Jul 2018, 02:33

If i had to connect two 8 AWG wire into one ring terminal - SB50 etc, which size would i need to get ?

i may need to use two wire cables - 8 AWG ends and fit into one Ring terminal etc, - crimp and solder - for i think its a SB50 connector but it may be the larger size SB175 - either way -

i like a size a bit larger so i can fit both wires snug but not too tight to add solder in there also -

any suggestions on the size needed ?

thanks

With 8mm sq or 6mm sq etc, as all things metric, its easy you just add them together.

So 8 + 8 = 16mm sq.
or 6 + 6 = 12mm sq
or 8 + 6 = 14mm sq
or 6 + 10 + 4 = 20mm sq. for 3 wires. etc.

Then order it and it fits.

When it comes to awg or swg and all the rest of the olde imperial stuff I have no idea if thats the same thing. But I doubt it since the numbers are all backwards! So 16 gauge is smaller than 10... So dunno!

i agree its confusing to me with the AWG - but thats all i ever knew and still dont know it all

look at the drop down on this link - shows different sizes -

https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00 ... UTF8&psc=1

if using a 8 AWG wire - i pick the 8 AWG ring - but those numbers get lower meaning thicker cable can be used - 4AWG and 2 AWG etc, but then theres another set of numbers

2 AWG - and 2/0 AWG - who knows whats the difference -

on a 6 AWG ring - i can fit a 10AWG wire along with a 12AWG wire with some solder - - - i want to use TWO 8 AWG wires at least into one Ring - hard to know which size would work for that -

i may have to get a few rings in larger sizes to test fit i guess - waste of money and time this way - would need it to fit in a Anderson connector -

could be a SB50 or the larger SB175 housing -

The question is - is the numbering relating to the cross sectional area as the metric system does?

If so then its easy. 2X 8AWG will need a 4AWG connector. But I have no idea if thats true!

Its why we use square millimeters in the rest of the worls. 2x 10 sq mm cable is 20 sq mm

Ok i may try a 2 AWG - if thats true and 4 AWG would be the proper size - i like it a bit larger - makes it easier to add in solder -

maybe in 1 AWG - will search for andersons in that size -

whats the difference between SB50 connector vs the SB175 ? i know they dont match with each other - is it just the outershells are different ? or also the plugs you use with the wire also different ?

Do you have any idea how big a 175A Anderson is ? It's about half a pack of cigaret .

If using bi-wires , why not one terminal for one wire on this end ?

that is huge - i found a site that carries larger size

https://powerwerx.com/anderson-sb175-pp ... ce-contact

i will call to ask them - i like to know what they would recommend if i had to use 8 AWG - two of them into one Anderson contact

maybe then its not a SB175 connector - i wont know till i can see it in person if its a SB50 size -

from a picture - i feel its a larger housing - the next size up from a SB50 is SB175 ?

i may need to make a cable that fits in between two andersons already connected - with an extra set of cables from one end to make a ADD ON Cable

the chair will have andersons already connected - i want to add my ADD ON Cable between that - i may be able to do it or i may not - i will check when i get my new chair - i am thinking ahead - maybe make another ADD ON for that Chair also - depends how hard it will be for me to make this cable and if i can even do it at all - for some reason i dont know just yet -

look at this picture - i may need to do it between the two connectors - i am just assuming this will work - dont know yet

if i am correct - i should get 24V from there - and maybe can make an ADD ON Cable - thats even if i can disconnect those and add my own in between -

they look to be screwed down - i dont want to take the whole thing apart - but if its just a matter of pulling them apart - adding my own in between that will give me an extra 24V line - that i may be able to do it -

i feel like a 100ah lithium is just not enough any more :o

3 types of pins for SB50.

The one on the right can fit 2 8awg wires .

Its not. Once you get free of lead, you realise it was restrictive. Before that, you just accepted it as normal and did not realise that it was controlling your life choices. You were conditioned to accept the limits that were imposed without thinking. Once you went lithium you broke the system! :clap :hammer drunk2

Why not make Y cable and keep using the compact SB50 instead of the heavy SB175?

Here's a link to a table that compares AWG and metric wire sizes. This pdf is from Anderson, but there are many similar on the web. In any case, two AWG8 wires will fit nicely into a standard European ring terminal for 16 mm^2 wire (the Roboteq 2450 has AWG8 leads, and I do use a 16 mm^2 ring connector for them), but may be too tight for an AWG 6 Anderson pin, but I'd try to stuff it in. Do stick with the SB50 - the larger Anderson is impossibly large. If necessary, use a crimped-and-soldered butt connector to go from the paired AWG8 to a single short piece of AWG6 to connect to a standard Anderson pin.

i dont have the item in front of me yet - i posted the pic above - those are the Connectors - they may very well be SB50 - i just assumed they were larger from the picture - but maybe not -

ok thanks - i didnt think of the butt connector - i have to wait and see what connectors are on there - they be very well be SB50 - this is something i may have to take time figuring out what works best - i may have to try a few different ways and see which works best if any work at all - i will try a 4 AWG anderson and if thats too tight i will try a 2 AWG - one of those may work - to stick enough solder in there also
