Temperature Gun

Postby Burgerman » 08 Jan 2019, 13:11

I just bought a gun at xmas on ebay. Cheap and chinese. I expected it to be crap.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Handheld-LCD ... 2749.l2649

What a marvelous little tool. Its fast, accurate, and has a bright clear oled screen. I have no idea why anyone needs one but if we ignore that...

My carer just brought me 4 cans of coke. Gun said 17.1C. I said I wanted some from the fridge! She said it was. I showed her the gun. She said she just put it in the fridge 3 mins ago! :fencing I lost.

So she brought me water from the fridge. In a glass. It was 6C. Better.
Then she brought me a glass of ice from the fridge. Minus 22.3C (Freezer set to 22C) so pretty good. Thats very cold ice. It cracks as its dropped in water.

My ceiling? 19.5C
My floor? 17.7C
My hand? 32.8C
My mouth open, 34.5C (was expecting 37C?)
Inside fridge? 1.1C
Inside freezer -22.8C
Lead battery after charge, 21C (in a room thats about 18C depending where and what you measure.)
Test oven temp. My burger was only 41C :eh:
Urine as it comes out 36.5C! My friend borrowed my gun...

Do I need it? No. But its interesting! Solder melt temp? Battery temp? Reads up to 800C (dull red) but only really accurate to 550C. Point the laser dot at anything, read off temperature. 8-)

Also reads off ambient temp and humidity. But that is only accurate if you have just picked it up. As the gun warms as you hold it...

I have nothing against me having a gun.

But I live in a town as most do, of desperate morons, mutants, religous nuts inc muslims, low IQ retards, violent idiots with short tempers, mentally ill, unstable, homeless and drug addicts who cant pay for the next hit that do anything for the £$£$ to pay. If me being able to have or get hold of a gun means they can as well, then thanks but no thanks!!! You would need to be as mental as them.

As things stand, I cant. And they cant either legally or otherwise. So I dont need one, and the cops dont need to be armed either. Net result, everyone much safer. Your kids can go to school for e.g., without getting any extra ventilation holes.

And my temp gun can measure the temperature of your gun... :fencing

Yes its set that way on purpose. Because right now I am in bed. And because our government has fallen for the unilateral planet saving desease. As such I am subsidizing electric cars, free high efficiency boilers, vast areas of windmills, the shutting down of cheap coal stations etc. And it costs a years wages each month to heat 1 room. Making absolutely no difference to the planet, but bankrupting business and individuals. :clap

Your government and mine.
In Spain there are many people who have to choose between eating or heating the House.
The electricity, gas and diesel are skyrocketing.

Yes. But its a non productive one.

Thats why every country that has the global warming religion is struggling to pay bills, and struggling for businesses to pay too. It makes every business less profitable. It also means consumers have no spare money to but their products. So is making society poorer and decreasing living standards. The rich western societies we live in that has high living standards, plenty food, heat, medical care, lives much longer than in the past with less suffering is all based on cheap fossil fuel. Take that away and we will go back to the middle ages, and struggle to feed anyone, and the cost of keeping the lights on will be unnafordable.

Sooner or later we have to move on to other things that can provide us the energy we need - it should be phased in slowly at least - we wont be able to EAT our Paper money - - we may have to burn it to keep warm

i am not suggesting we go back to middle ages in order to promote Green living - but we should do it how ever we can everywhere we can - makes sense - just like our batteries - we recharge and recharge and recharge - we make good use of it - imagine we had to use them10 times and replace - each time - sort of like lead -

we have to live and we can use our resources what ever they may be - to improve our lives - but we shouldn't do it blindly and destroy our planet at the same time just keep the bottom line - we are our worst enemy - - i wont be around to experience this when the shit hits the fan - good luck to who ever is around

hope that Paper Money tastes good - you may have to use as food to eat - just add some hot sauce - should be fine - :D

The time to use renewable energy is when it makes sense financially. I CHOOSE to fit cheap Chinese panels, Chinese inverters etc on my house because I expected to live 10 years and after 7 it would pay for itself. If I had to pay 4x that much to have a system installed "professionally" then it would be worn out, failed, long before it actually made any financial sense to do it.

So why do people fit solar? The UK is full of houses with solar panels on top generating about 1/6th of their needs. Because the GOV allow you to have a free handout, and pay you more than the value of what you generate back in cash. And still use that power for free. In other words, they tax you to death and then give you it back for generating solar power as a "reward" for saving the planet. What a joke that is.

Because taxing the coal, oil, gas, to subsidize CO2 reduction, and windmills, electric cars, and solar panels. And to give us all "free" energy efficient windows, heating boilers, insulation, just reduces the standard of living foe all. It makes the society poorer. We lost a huge steel plant recently, since its energy bills made it uncompetitive. So we buy steel now from China, made with coal power... Yes making yourself poorer doesn't even save any CO2. And worse, the COST of C02 reduction is huge, while the actual evidence shows that C02 production increased every year since the industrial revolution. So thats working well then!!! Even worse, nobody has actually got real evidence that reducing C02 output, which we cant, would actually have any positive affect anyway. Or that CO2 actually does cause warming. Or that warmer is bad. It never was in the past. Quite the opposite. So its all stupid.

Thousands sold for huge solar and domestic solar systems, same with windmills, boats, recreational vehicles, and even camper vans and caravans. Then theres lawn mowers, golf buggies and carts, electric winches, backup systems for UPS etc. And more. I used to sell these and Optimas for buoys, alarm and scientific study equipment, electric cart race circuits, and more. The military use them for radios, winches and backup systems too. As do photographers and film crews for lighting. Theres a lot of places gel or deep cycle batteries get used.

I discovered mines dead accurate when first picked up. After that it reads too cool... So you gotta be quick. As usual, I should have saved my money and bought the expensive but truly accurate Fluke one I first looked at. Buy cheap, pay twice. :fencing

I just bought one too! It's not arrived yet and I don't know what it'll be like but it was cheap, although not the cheapest. Cheaper ones were 330 celsius but I thought higher 550 temp one might come in handy when soldering braising with a blow torch?

4C?? Are you an American? Or a Lager (boy's drink) drinker?
If I'd sold proper English bitter in the pub I managed many years ago at 4C I would have been lynched.
It had to be at least 11C. Draught Guinness exactly 11.6666667C or 53F.

PS At that time, before decimalisation, my cask Best Bitter was 1/6d a pint ( that's around £00.07 {I think} in today's money.)

I got a yellow one recently as well. Its good to within a degree of my K-series thermocouple probe, but surface emissivity can upset it, shiny surfaces read low and small areas, e.g. soldering iron tip, are well nigh impossible. But for checking the heated bed on my 3D printer, or the water flow in a radiator, or verifying fridge & freezer are doing their thing. its great.
