3.00-4 tubeless tyres. Appropriate wheel.

Postby funkykeyboard » 27 Sep 2019, 11:04

I didn't realise you could get tyres this small in the tubeless format. Tubeless would be better because then I can put the slime in for punctures. Does anybody know what decent looking/sexy wheel for tubeless tyres this size?

Any advice appreciated, Tremulous Tetra. :-)

You can use slime with tubes too?

This tyre is tubeless and you can order the rim.

https://www.heba-reifen.at/produkt/vred ... -4-pr-v76/

Edit: If you do not read German order a "VREDESTEIN 260×85 (3.00-4) TL 4 PR V76" with rims from your dealer...

I wouldn't use treaded tyres on caster wheels as it would make the chair harder to turn. A smooth/bald tyre has less friction so easier to turn.

@ Steve: fair point! But I have not found a threadless TL tyre in that size yet...

this tyre is not good wrong shape needs to have more rounded profile square edges bounce of kerbs etc instead of going up them, our size is hard to find in tubeless next to impossible it seems in the uk i recently fitted heidenau tyres to a diy tubeless rim for a friend but to early to say how well it works in use but a homemade seal and a bolt on tyre valve (3mm neoprene for gasket) has stayed fully inflated for 12 days so far,not the best way maybe but if it works it be great,if not i put a tube back later :x peace cheers

there are these -
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Pack-of-2-De ... SwCFNbUoPW
but I'm not sure it is worth it - if you have moved your centre of gravity back then the castors will float over most things - I'm not sure mine touch the ground very much at all now - my other half gets quite anxious when she is with me and tells me off for pulling wheelies - I don't even know I'm doing it

Hmmm. Just interested. With your centre of gravity so far back how do you manage ramps, getting in a cab or on a train et cetera?

As somebody said earlier, where do you find threadless tyres this size? Are they tubeless?

Any advice appreciated, Tremulous Tetra. :-)

I use these with some OXO Off-Road sealant... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SET-OF-4-X-T ... 2632374829 Never had a puncture.

Tyres that fit 4 inch rims.

These are actually smooth... https://allterraintyres.co.uk/index.php ... gs3fec5bb4 And tubes to match.

Steve

the valves don't come out of the inner tubes do they? If not, how do you feel that in the tube with the "OXO Off-Road sealant"?

Is "OXO Off-Road sealant" the same as OKO Off-Road sealant? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/OKO-OFF-ROAD ... Sw2cRcb96I

How do you let the air out when the sealant is inside to replace the tyre? Or do you just always replace the in the tube every time you replace the tyre?

Any advice appreciated, Tremulous Tetra. :-)

Unscrew the valve core to get sealant into the inner tube then replace valve core. You can deflate exactly as you do with no sealant, just push the valve core. Sealant has a relatively short life span, 6 months to 1 year, it is always worth reading the tech information for each type. From my experience on pedal bikes it doesn't work as well in inner tubes as it does in a tubeless tyre.

Yes valves come out of inner tubes. Screwed in. The bottle top stopper is a key.

Or be cheap and make your own by jamming one of the caps with the valve core removal end on the end of a bolt....

Some of the tools have extra bits that are supposedly good for cleaning up the threads and such, but I've never found a need for them so why bother....
