birdwatching telescope mounting

Postby rickystyx » 04 Oct 2019, 19:16

One of the things I love to do and one of the main reasons for modifying a chair to have big wide wheels and large castors is so that I canget out and about to go bird and nature watching.
I've tried mounting a hide clamp telescope mount onto various bits of armrest / armrest extension (i.e. bolted bar under the armrest) and even onto footrest bits but haven't come up with anything stable enough fr the high magnification yet and generally these end up being one side or the other so don't end up in the best viewing position either.
I just wondered if there were any other budding bird watches/ phone scopers who may have come up with a better soloution of how to make a really steady telescope mount?

I am into photography. Long exposures and night photography are impossible however you mount the camera. Rubber tyres are just not solid enough for pixel perfect exposures even if you go blue and stop breathing. I tried all sorts of mounts. Your heartbeat or the wind or something still causes movement. So I suspect its a lost cause. I just got used to using a decent tripod. In your case, a decent tripod with a bar on top, weighted on the opposite end to the camera or telescope for balance may be your only real solution.

Can't you just find a nice beach or pool where you can get close enough to the bikini-clad birds to not need a telescope to spy on them??? :P
