Burgerman wrote:Non of that looks secure or safe to ship if you ask me. My previous chairs that came by carrier came from germany with a pallet and a heavy strapping holding it in place. That stuff that looks like 1/2 inch wide plastic with crimped metal joiners. Over axles, frame on foal, etc. And with arms and controllers removed, backrest removed, all packed seperately in boxes as well as the charger and all securely strapped on to the seat inside a heavy box. All of that was in a really heavy cardboard case/cover with wooden bars up the corners inside. Full of plastic bags filled with shaped polyurethane foam to fill in all the gaps. Very solidly packed. You would have been able to roll it end over end without any damage or anything moving. And a pig to unpack...

My scooter came direct from Sunrise, in a large cardboard box on a pallet. We had to cut and fold down sides of box and then push scooter off pallet. Then fit things like seat, wing mirrors, etc.

Yes but you can't buy a modern RWD chair in the US - All Invacare offers are the old H-frame models (a US Storm is NOT the same as a UK 'Storm Explore') and Sunrise just offers the 6x6 and 220 models - all 10-20+ year old designs...

If I was in the market for a new chair, I would be definitely starting the process by renewing my passport and looking at Air Iceland flight options... (and shopping for a bin-ready cheapy for the trip TO....)

I like BM and ebay's Storm 3 chairs. The cost 500-700 pounds is very reasonable for those decent chairs but shipping is a nightmare :fencing

A cousin (AB) is in UK. Is it possible if she pretends being disabled, sits on the chair, drives to the airport and flights to VN

How weird is that!
You have a massive local market, as big as the EU, no rehab rear drive chairs?

Bounder? Yes, not modern, chain drive etc. Why? Thats just odd.

Canada has none either. V6[V4]RWD Magic Mobility is available if you want to sell a body part.

There are smaller folding or shopping centre or portable ones though/ And no rehab style with smaller 2 pole motors and smaller batteries? Pride do one?

And quickie (sunrise) as our freind expresso in new york has 2?

But seriously hard to find.
Here there are quite a few. This craze for mid drive with all those wheels to hit everything and high centering outdoors is much less popular.

In many cases there are front, mid, and rear drive variants of the same chair.
For e.g. Scroll long page. Since this is the same manufacturer that does the quickie chairs it makes no sense that they dont also offer the same chairs in the US. Same with other manufacturers. We have invacare rear drive chairs, and even the storm 4 explore brushless or 4 pole chairs.

Sunrise owns Magic Mobility. We get two choices from Sunrise Canada,646SE or the rebadged Amy Altrack. Neither are true RWD to me.

Yes, Pride still has the Rival. But they do not count.

646/SE definitely a RWD. Don't be mislead by it's stupid anti-tippers.

It also has the only logical placement of rear suspension design , between pivot and load.

Could she say that she is your carer and it's your chair and she's returning it to VN cos when you was visiting UK you got caught sick and had to return on bed and your chair got left behind in UK?

or concoct some other cock & bull story :problem:

Airports in the UK can NOT question a persons disability. If your serious about getting your cousin to bring you a chair all she would have to do is pretend she can not walk. If asked she could say she has MS and cannot trust her legs so uses a chair. She would have to be lifted into and out of her chair. She could also not go to the toilet while on the plane.

There are some videos on youtube on how to fly with a wheelchair and also on any airports website.

Depending on the airline saying something like that then means the airline say you have to be accompanied by an able bodied carer who can look after you.

If that is the case, they should be able to remove or shorten them. Expesso has one but he didn't think so.If you have one take a look.

I agree, but basically our choices boil down to mid-wheels, or the Permobile front-wheels...

Sunrise is importing the Q6-M but not the Q6-R.... Invacare is not importing the Storm Explore, etc.

As I said the choices for RWD boil down to the Sunrise 6x6, or the Invacare H-frames, both of which were great in their day, and still aren't 'BAD' but also are both basically 20 year old designs...

The 646 is essentially a poorly done (from our standpoint) copy of the F-55....

It is aluminum, instead of steel - making it harder to weld on mods...

The front down tubes are in a 'V' shape, which makes them to narrow at the bottom to put the battery box over the top of them (like a BM-2) and not friendly to cutting (back to aluminum....) in order to do the cut and weld setup of the BM-3....
