Now I am an air freshener manufacturer!

Postby Burgerman » 16 Oct 2019, 01:04

I got fed up with stupid small overpriced air fresheners. They spray badly, and most goes on the floor. 3 MINS later the smell has gone. Tried many makes, tried the plug in ones, and all of it is useless.

So I bought 2 of these. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Manyo-Plastic- ... B07DR7W9YZ

And I bought a gallon (5 litres) of isopropyl alcohol. Because I use it in my razor too.
I also bought 3 different aromatic essential oils. Lemon oil, orange blossom oil, and lavender because its strong.

I mix 50cc of lavender, 50cc of Orange blossom oil, 50cc of lemon oil. All available on ebay. To 1 litre of alcohol.

Enough to refill my huge pair of spray atomizer containers full. Twice. So 4 bottles with 3 litres of Isopropyl left over. Does it work?
You bet! Smells far better, and it lasts. I sprayed it in every room at 12 o clock (dinner) or my carer did, 6 hours later another carer came in, going wow, whats that smell its gorgous...

This is going to last me a long time. Doesent seem to wear off...

Alcohol https://www.amazon.co.uk/LITRE-ISOPROPY ... hen&sr=1-1

Oils...
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Mystic-Moments ... hen&sr=1-6
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Mystic-Moments ... hen&sr=1-6
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Mystic-Moments ... hen&sr=1-8

Theres lots of others. Lavender works great on its own. Orange/lemon OIL does too. OK not cheap, but try comparing that strength, and price to all the ready to go useless ones!

If you reduced the concentration by 50% it works out at approx £0.93/100ml and would still be at least an order of magnitude stronger than commercial products and a lot cheaper. Asda prices are £1.18/100ml for Airwick aerosols and a crazy £20/100ml for Glade refills (yes, £2 for 10ml!) and the concentrations in those are tiny.

Not that I use the stuff, we're both allergic to the pong.

i have to give that a try - i am big on smells and like the place to smell good all the time - isnt easy when living with so many others in the building who like to fry fish alot - i get the smells in my apt. i have to say what does seem to work decent is the Apple Cinnamon sprays - everyone likes them - i also use incense

but i always wanted to try making my own spray scent and i will give this a try - my last person i hired was impressed when she first came here for an interview - she was expecting it to smell bad etc, but was impressed how it smelled and liked it - made her feel more willing to move forward and take the job - shes been with me close to two years now - shes young and i am sure she will move on sooner or later - she actually learned fast and is more than able to do the job - better than i expected and mature - but still young - as they are today - always with the phone social media etc, -

i guess thats how it is today - anyway having the place smell nice was a good thing and positive - people are more willing to try it and work when its clean and smells good also -

Well the orange blossom and lemon, do not smell as strong as the lavender by far. So you need to experiment with mixture strengths. And different oils. But trust me it works well. And in bulk its cheap. I am just ordering more different ones!

Incidentaly, I am using the exact same mix with isopropl alcohol 99% in my braun razor instead of refils. With 5% added lemon oil. Also works great.

You could actually use the very same stuff as after shave too.

You're going to ruin the makers of air fresheners...

I'm going to give it a go. But I'm going to use Grapefruit essential oil as one of the smells, I love it, it smells much better than actual Grapefruit.

Some of these oils are really strong smell, when atomised with isopropyl alc. Some are not. So I suggest buying small quantity to test.
