Does the boat go through the humorous strait, down the med, round gibraltar, and then past the bay of biscay and onto dover?

No they are the worst. After about a month of time wasting they wont actually deliver. They first hold your parcel ransom till you pay both their FEE to collect from customs which is their job and you already paid shipping. And the estimated over the top customs charge plus VAT. They send a 2nd class letter. After you jump through hoops and pay their ransom, a van arrives a week later, and it posts a note to say you were not available, and to collect it yourself from the depot. And no matter how fast you are you cannot make the door before they run away. Because thats easier for the driver. Its all because they were once a socialist run nationalised company and all feel entitled. I have videoed them with my door cam doing this, and they dont even get the package out of the van. They just post the note in 5 seconds.

Be advised that slow-boat takes 58 days to Europe.

Shirley,

My second ZXD has now arrived. Looked inside the box and all seems well. It will now go into storage until some other projects are done.

Thanks,

UK contingent has arrived in UK but 'held by customs'. What to do?

Wait is all you can do and hope you avoid import charges. Its normal for this to happen, in my experience it will just pass through without any charges. But that will depend on the customs declaration.

I had to pay £28 :cussing

Do customs pluck a random figure out the air and bill us?

Perhaps Shirley put a little extra in the parcel for me, like a bomb! hanged

There were 3 parcels to UK. They all arrived on the 18th Oct then were shipped to local depot after customs charges were 'revised' and letters sent out.

Charges should be consistent unless there's an extra delivery component for instance?

Mine is arriving today (allegedly) , the delivery was scheduled the exact moment I paid last night.

Its arrived.... :D

Well packed in sturdy cardboard, but the 'foam' used inside hadn't fully set. My PA was scooping it out by the hand-full. She wasn't impressed. :(

Thanks Shirley, it looks a great piece of kit and so small!

Sadly the LED has come away in transit :(

IMAG0544.jpg

The case was filthy and there's a footprint on the side!  but it cleans up well :D

IMAG0542.jpg

Now off to test it :) AFTER I've taken it to bits and put the necessary insulation in and fixed the LED back.

I used a few layers of that as well on mine as well. Hope it's sufficient.

Any tape that sticks, I used some cheap 2 inch wide insulation electricians tape. You might not need any. Put a straight edge along the heat sink, or assemble and see if its touching. Even a 2mm gap is plenty.

I just used a gash piece of 0.5mm PVC sheet and some double sided tape. The display board is OK, its just held in place by the nut on the rotary switch which had come loose because there's no way to tighten it properly. I'll take it to the lab tomorrow and hot-glue it in place, I'm out of sticks, then put some Loctite on the nut.

Its certainly an interesting beast inside. Is there a manual and/or a schematic?

Theres a complex translation link somewhere... Its a solid and powerful beast. I tightened mine ok, with good tools. Its the programming and that one knob thing used for configuring it that had me baffled for a while. Then it sort of clicks... And its easy.

Thanks guys! I have lots of black insulating PVC electrical tape so I'll use some of that. Although when my Brother helped me to test it, it seemed to be ok when powered up.

So you got scammed by that piss taking ripoff parcel farce then. I REALLY hate them. Never use them. Always refuse their ripoff charge of 12 pounds for doing their job, you already paid for shipping. Thats isnt a customs charge, it what they charge you for COLLECTING from customs. They charged you again. You may have to pay VAT but not parcelfarces ripoff charge. Tell them to get stuffed.

But they are clever. They hold your parcel ransom till you pay. Unlike EVERY OTHER COMPANY who deliver the parcel ASAP and bill you later. I DETEST parcel Farce.

Because I had to open mine to sort the display out I could see that the offending coil had been rubbing though there was no danger of it shorting - yet. Better safe than sorry...

Anyway, mine tests out fine. Volts within 1% every decade from 10 to 60v and 4.995v at 5v/10A. Current limit within 1.5% at all 1A intervals from 1 to 10A (can't easily test higher at the moment).
