No idea, local rag, assuming it's still going, is mainly adverts, stopped being a news-paper years ago, so I stopped reading it.

Not seen an ad in a decade. Also same uBlock Origin, allows me to select and permanantly ban all the join up, consider paying, other popups, dull screen overlays, and GDPR garbage, and a ton of other stuff.

E.G. on youtube I have no popups to try to get me to sign in, no agree or read this terms and other bullshit, no like buttons, no upvote/downvote, no ads of any kind ever including those anoying embedded or at the start of vids, or on the page, no autoplay, no button to stop it, no up-next, and half a dozen other anoyances and pop ups all gone forever. Even the mrnu and google logo waste space. And an added download button.

All the places I visit often, are the same. No sign up, greyed screens, no ads, no anoyances. If theres a section I dont want, like a footer bar, I select it and its gone indefinitely. The web with the shit all gone! How it was in the 80s.

A Youtube thats simple! Not even the google logo, or menu button never mind ads!

Simple no ad or crap version:

I think you will find old paper ones have mostly gone. They are all online, mostly unreadable without all the shit removed! Or wanting you to sign up, or pay with a grey screen and an easily removed popup, etc in your way.

One you tidy it up, its a free local paper with non of the ads. Check every day to see whats going on!

Hmm "ublock origin" claims it blocked 22 ads and pop-ups on this site! Do I believe it? It doesn't look different

Edit: seems to increase by 22 every refresh...

Yes. Its not only ads, but added connection, external links you didnt need or know about in the PHP software, as well as the various server logs, and the actual logging data that users can see, at the bottom of the page.

If you look at the details you can see what it blocked. And now my counters, and some of my info about my users, they browsers, ip data etc wont be seen.

Increase every refresh because the same stuff is loaded!

I might ad that mine is blocking 2 on this page so you must have a bunch of browser stuff sending data home. Other addons or non blocked info in settings etc. IF I clear ALL history, blocks 3.

Heres another e.g.

This shows one neat version, no ads, no popups, no gdpr, and most of the crap gone from the menu that I am not interested in watching. And no phoning home.

It also shows that without this treatment its unusable. Big ads, popups, and a begging letter at the bottom all make the window HUGE and it doesent even fit my screen! So I had to do a top and bottom version...

NEAT version!!!

This is how it looks without my selective treatment and uBlock... And this does not show the 2 popups I had to click!

My local weekly newspaper still exists as a real thing that is delivered free to peoples houses but their website is so infectious it will give your computer Bad AIDS.

I'm surprised the printed version has survived the growth of the internet but then not everyone is connected. My first few cars were bought and sold through adverts in it.

Does it have ads?
Didnt see any.

I did see a banner at the bottom that wanted me to turn off the adblocker. So I selected both halves of it and added that to my filter. And one anoying little banner thingy on the top right.

Then its a perfectly clean website full of local news.

See:

Remove that anoying notice, part 1
Image11.gif
Remove the first bit...

Remove the other bit, part 2
Image2.gif

And then removed that little top right notice because I didnt like it.
And then every page all CLEAN!!! Permanantly.

From the Pacific Northwest... https://www.seattletimes.com/

Seattle City Council member Kshama Sawant was reelected. She is openly socialist and the driver behind last years attempt to levy a head tax on Amazon and other large businesses.

Seattle Sounders are playing for the MLS cup today...and the Seahawks are 7-2 preparing to face the 8-0 49ers.

SR99 tunnel tolling begins,

737 MAX certification is going backwards instead of forward.

51 degrees and misty rain falling (probably all day) on the coast.

Ask her which socialist country tha hasnt already gone bust or is doing so at the moment like venuzuala, peurto rico etc she would rather live in?
Ask her to point out a successful one that isnt mired in suffering and poverty?

Germany was divided into capitalist and socialist halves across a common city, berlin, after the war. The eastern half was poverty stricken, desperate, and living in a socialist hell that had no freedom, no way to help themselves, so no food on shelves, same run down roads/building from the 2nd world war, no anything. And the whole eastern block was the same and collapsed after millions dead and pure desperation. Ask her why? See https://www.seattletimes.com/life/30-ye ... ded-world/
