Invacare mirage (old powerchair)

Postby Ellibot » 30 Jan 2021, 21:30

Hello,

I have an invacare mirage for now until I can get some house adaptations and because the newer folding ones wouldn't handle my weight or the hills!

Anyway I've damaged the leg rests quite badly due to me attempting to plop down a curb when I was new (I have long legs) and then because a bus driver couldn't be bothered to lower the bus and then attempted to pull me down the steep ramp and they buckled again. I've bent the metal back and they are holding on for dear life but obviously this isn't ideal.

Anyone got any tips of what to do? I've already bought a 4" cushion so I'm a bit higher but I still can't raise the legs any, it just made them more comfy.

I was tempted to buy adjustable leg rests but I've no idea what fits what.

Definitely looking forward to getting a proper powerchair when I can!

The last sentence is likely what you should do. Meanwhile you need to order the bent parts from a sunrise dealer. Or look on eBay. For the same chair.

Anything look familiar?

Thanks for your replies, I'm really confused now.

Duke - they don't look like they'd fit. If I've done it right I think I've uploaded a pic on the attachments

Burgerman - some of them look like they'd fit but I'm just not sure. Your right. I'll be throwing the chair in the bin (or donating it) asap. But I had to buy this myself, for £700 at my local shop, cus I kept getting told this service will help and come with occupational therapy assesment because my house is not ideal at all. And then that service couldn't help, so the person helping me tried 3 services in total and in the end I just got fed and bought one myself. Now I'm waiting again for my gp to sort something but at least I have a mobility aid. I've been looking on the solutions mobility website, and I think I will spend my savings on one from there, as ideally I need one that can tilt. Someone told me I won't get funding as I don't need it 100% of the time (more like 90) though I'm new to all this so I've no idea. It's all incredibly confusing especially when people just keep saying they can't help.

I used to be a bike mechanic, would love to work out how to customise a chair but my brain struggles now to work basic stuff out. I.e legrests that might fit!

If you look at the links, at least the top 2 they give the names of other chairs they fit as well as yours.

Not ideal, but any chance of getting some reinforcing welded on?
