BLS still have their 200AH available and they include the customs and shipping in their price but I'm glad I got mine when I did. if they had had the 200AH when I got mine I would have had them but to be fair I'm very happy with my 150AH cells which will get me further than I will ever go - best upgrade I ever made. Sadly I couldn't fit two sets into the battery box without moving the control boxes but I couldn't be bothered with that but it does mean my spare chair is ready to go whenever I need to do work on the Optimus - I haven't done a how far can you go test but I recon about 90 miles before it needs a recharge - if I do 30 on a long trip I'd be happy so plenty in reserve. It is thanks to BM and folks here that I did my first chair and I'm glad I got a second set of everything as now things seem to be a bit like rocking horse poo to get. The Shirley power supplies are also fantastic - couldn't have a better set up really.
Thanks guys for all the help and ideas

They are now a really stupid price £1,200 for 8 + £200 shipping. Then you have the new import tax.

And the PL8 V2 has been put back to the end of march.
But there is no point in importing them now to the UK.

in march - then it will be april - then May - June July - something is wrong there - cant be possible all this time and still cant get the PL8 going ?

My cell #8 suddenly becomes a lot lower than others (above -14mV). I do not think it gets weaker but there might be something wrong in its balance wire or connectors. I checked bolts on the cells, all were fine, no one was loose. So I suspect the D-Sub connectors get dirty. I remember someone here had the same issue and resolved it by spaying some cleaning liquid into D-Sub connectors. Can you re-post the name of that liquid?

i noticed on my new pack - i have one cell when charging - to balance it - takes longer than the rest - its better when used daily etc,

so i would figure thats the weaker cell - but during the discharge - its actually better than the rest - its not the first to hit 2.5v - its the last really -

seems strange to me - i though that would have been the first instead of last - either way i have tons of Ah - it will never hit below 3v in a days time - maybe 3.1V - from the the discharge - it was good down to 22v total pack volt -

That D5 deoxit solution is not sold here. But I found 3 alternatives 3M 5-W, RX9 and RB7

If its called switch or electrical deoxidiser or cleaner it will likely work. If its another wd40 type thing thats not what you need.

Those 3M 5-W, RX9 and RB7 are the same type as WD-40 :cussing

But I found the right one "ABRO EC-533 Electronic Contact Cleaner". The seller said they imported it from the US.

WD-40 has various product lines.

It's the weak cells to reach the top first .

Your cells are still in the nominal discharge platform, so should be of the same volt.

That cell 8 need to lay eye on it.

Suggest to perform a thorough discharge to find out .

That cell #8 is always lower when charging/discharging/monitoring.

I will clean the D-Sub connectors, hope that would help.

I tend to regard anything coming from WD-40 Corp as suspect... They seem to be aiming at the mass-consumer market w/ lots of money spent on promotion and advertising instead of on making good products...

I've seen more than a few tests on different sorts of products intended for different purposes, and there is a consistent pattern of the WD-40 product coming in near the bottom of the results.... (best was a test for penetrating oils, and WD-40 got beat by WATER)

I also get suspicious when the labeling on a product includes words like "Professional" "Specialist" or similar.... Usually means that the product is one that no real professional would be willing to touch....

I tend to avoid any WD40 products since they perform poorly. I use Deoxit D5 on my connectors and it works perfectly. Not cheap but does what it says.

To be fair I use it too. But mostly on computers when building them. Every connector gets a squirt! Every slot in the connectors, etc. And again to be sure we dont cut off any heads with model jets at silly speeds, and helis, I use it on all connections. Seems to maintain a "wetted" connection, with no electrical noise as you wiggle them about. One can lasts years used with care.

Best way to crimp /soler crimps?
Put some solder in connect then crimp andthen heat connector so solder comes out of. The luttle hole on connector
Solder wire then crimp then heat terminal?
Any other ways? Whats your preferred method

Crimping with a little solder means less hands and easier, But you can just heat and feed solderat the end. Use some flux.

Thx BM for reply.

I had issues with my studs coming lose when I built my pack last time, I loctited the studs down with red stuff but they still came lose so I have had the holes tapped out to M6 plus my battery box extended by 30mm which should mean they wont be shoe horned in. So learned a few lessons last time and want to do it better 2nd time around.

Add studs to battery clean and red loctite do not over tighten. When set and a day later at least add the simple nyloc nuts and no washers on top of ring terminals and do NOT over tighten. Cleaned with abrasive, oxide free and a squirt of switchcleaner. Then tighten with care! Alloy is soft. Even loctite cant help with that it just stops them coming loose as you undo. It doesent add strength in the pulling out direction. When you tighten that nut it is attempting to pull out the thread in the battery.

It is a good idea to solder large crimps like the ones on the bigger (SB-50 / PP-75) Andersons, especially if not using the ultra expensive Manufacturer specified crimper. The metal in the larger diameter crimps is thin enough that it can be loosened by cable flexing over time, and the soldering helps prevent this.

It is NOT a good idea to solder the typical insulated crimps or the smaller (PP-15/30/45) Andersons as long as you are using the right size crimp (and decent quality) for the wire, and are using a good quality RATCHETING crimper (don't even think of using one of those cheap plier things!) The metal used in those is thick enough not to loosen w/ wire flexing, and the metal is designed to actually deform into and around the wire strands to make a 'gas-tight' connection. Soldering turns the wire into a solid blob and will make it tend to break at the edge of the solder blob....

Not only is this the standard for 'mil-spec' applications, and what the manufacturers of both the wire and the crimps advise but I've even seen it tested in practice...

At a former employer we had a slowish period, and some of the people questioned the need for our expensive ratcheting crimpers - the boss decided that for fun we would have a test - folks were invited to bring in their favorite plier crimpers and make test leads with their favorite techniques (which would have gotten them fired if used on product) and put them on our pull-test machine.... Testing to failure, the leads made with the ratchet crimpers failed because the pull exceeded the tensile strength of the wire, but the crimped connections held. EVERY soldered crimp failed at the edge of the solder joint. EVERY plier crimp failed by the wire pulling out of the crimp.... Before my next home project I got a ratcheting crimper...

Theres no difference in failure between a PROPERLY crimped small connector which is hard to achieve and a soldered connection. Failure at the end of the solder is equally likely if a crimp holds the wire firmly. But more importantly the soldered ones are not subject to oxidation from being wet or road salt and corrosion failure as crimped ones are. A least not done at home. I would crimp to hold in place and solder to be sure it stays that way. Unless I was crimping in a production line or scientific situation.

So these are the two ring twrminals I want to use, both are M6 holes one is 10awg for a 10awg wire and the other is 18awg for a 22awg wire.

I intend to crimp and then solder wire, do my crimps look ok? If not can you suggest a good pair of crimps for me.

If you plan to solder the small ones any crimp will do. You dont even need to crimp those. I dont bother - just solder and heat shrink.

Fold the wires to make it thicker to fill up the barrel. Then crimp and solder. Add extra wires will also do .

Good for low quality Chinese cells, this new charger may worth a look ;
1S -- 12S , 20A Charge current , 4A balance , 9-58V input.

Can you do 3 things.

1. Make it speak english!
2. set a low termination current or suitable CV time limit.
3. stop it trying to balance below 3.5V ?

If so it could be useful. Although 11 hours to charge a 200Ah cell. But 4A balance will speedup a badly balanced pack. As long as it doesent stop as soon as it balanced...
