Fracmo motor gaskets

Postby steves1977uk » Mon Apr 30, 2012 1:41 pm

Hi all,

Does anyone know where I can get spare gaskets for Fracmo motors? My Uncle came down this morning to see how he could seperate the motor from the gearbox and during the process the gasket broke.

The reason he did this was to try and save Martin a job so he could concentrate on my F55 chair which still needs a few mods done on it instead of fitting another set of motors to my Elite Whisper chair as I need this chair working for my Mum and Carer as they find it easier to manoeuver me in.

Are you sure it actually needs a gasket? Most kind of have one there for no real gain.

Hi BM,

I'm not sure. Would it still work if my Uncle removed the broken gasket and refitted the motor to the gearbox?

Define broken... a smear of gasket goo will repair any breaks...
The gasket is there to keep the grease in and the elements out.

Make you own if you wish...old cereal box or brown parcel wrapping paper with a smear of gasket goo.

On most theres just a rubber motor coupling in there. No grease.

It may be worth trying to either repair the broken gasket w/ goop or replacing it with some sort of material that is about the same thickness... In many cases there may be clearances between different parts that can be altered for the worse if the gasket is left out, or replaced with something that's a lot thicker or thinner than the original...

Except for stuff like engine head gaskets or other high precision stuff (which will often use a metal or other non-compressible gasket material) it isn't super critical, but being reasonably close is a good thing.,..,

Thanks for the replies Alan, BM and ex-G.

Would something like http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_173139_langId_-1_categoryId_255217 be ok as replacement goop?

As would some car brush type touch up paint or clear nail polish should you have a GF around? Its not critical.
