Mercedes Sprinter JoySteer (Tiller)

Postby ICEUK » 18 Jan 2015, 22:18

Took over a year for my van to be built, it cost 100K in total, motability funded the entire cost, I never thought I would be accepted but I had nothing to lose so I applied and was successful.
The van is 100% drive by wire, if the computer has a shit I'm fcuked (-: in the beginning we had a few gremlins to iron out but all is well now, I cam drive at motorway speeds in it all day long (70mph) and it does not feel squirrely at all, I had the steering parameters, brake and throttle adjusted to how I want and them, the nice thing about the Joysteer system is that it returns to centre, you don't have to find it.
Finally my adaptions are Electric handbrake, Joysteer tiller steering, Brake on lever, Electric thumb throttle, EZ lock tie down, remote control ramp and doors, Automatic side step,

I will put a video up soon with me actually driving it both inside and outside view at the same time.

Yep it took a year, was told i got the funding oct 2013 and took delivery nov 2014, so many promises regarding delivery that in the end i just gave up asking, rear or side door both got there advantages, its down to preference. But i couldnt have side door as driveway not wide enough but i prefer rear entry.

I woiluld like to put alloys on the van but there quite expensive or they looked badly curbed 2nd hand )-;

I can get 35 mph on a run and 25 around town which isnt bad really considering size,
I have a dashcam if anyone is interssted to see how it drives with tbe joysteer system

Hi all, just joined and first post so please be kind :D Had a Chrysler Entervan for 7 years with Paravan electric Brake/Gas by joystick and SDL's own hydraulic tiller steering. A few Chrysler reliability issues but did 82,000 miles safely and without incident. Very grateful to Motability but they no longer fund Chrysler so had to have GM Coachworks T5 Shuttle this time around. Just wanted my old steering and Brake/Gas systems in new vehicle but told had to have JoySteer single lever electronic steering and their mechanical Brake/Gas. What a nightmare so far! The brakes are like a switch with very little progessive braking. Can anyone please reassure me that playing around with the parameters on a laptop will provide the control I had/need.
Thank you.

Hi sticker,

You sure you got that correct joysteer mechanical brake/gas? Joysteer is 100% drive by wire everything
Goes through the computer. Have you got a four way joystick? Any pictures? Joysteer is highly programmable
There is so much that can be altered. It probably took 6 attempts to get to drive how i want it to. Where are you in the uk?

Adaptacar done my adaptions, they are based in south moulton devon, they are a friendly bunch. Jack does the
Joysteer fitting and programming and although he is still learning this new system he is very accomadating.

Hi John,

Thanks for your response and apologies for the delay getting back to you.
I don't have any photo's but will get some taken and post them. The Joysteer web site describes what I have fitted as a Gas/Brake Tilter!
SDL who fitted it told me the tilter is 'mechanical' as opposed to an 'electronic' joystick. It does however use 'beaver' software so I am more than confused!!

Regards
Stephen
