Use a genuine Neutrik plug.

I used these because the Neutrik cost three times more.

Guess I'll use originals next time.

Only seriously easy (and the price of a beer) if you know someone, or know someone who knows someone, or you can use your hands… :-)

An even easier way...

Buy a Neutrik connector.

Get a pre wired accessory connector extension... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/12-volt-Car-C ... 1e9123730c

Plug the USB 5v thingy into it...

Get any high street repair shop, college, model shop, hobbyist, or whoever to just add the Neutrik connector to the end of the cable.

More then likely the pins in the XLR were sightly deformed when wires were soldered to them. The easiest way to correct this is to replace the male XLR and plug the male into a spare female when soldering and that will hold the pins in correct alignment.

That's pretty smart. Thanks for the suggestion!

Better still. Includes a spare cable...

What phone takes 2000ma? It would still work on 1000ma but charge slower? 2000 (2 AMPS) is huge! Must have a 20 inch screen!

HI BM,
My wife and I are using the same phone as yourself at the time of your post, (HTC Sensation XE). i feel like i'm powering a city, (my fault too many apps running), so i'm definitely gonna get into this. i see on ebay a dual outlet port USB adapter, 1 giving 1amp the other at 2.1amp;

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/261518029730? ... EBIDX%3AIT

the phones supplied wall charger gives 1amp, and my wife is using the standard HTC 850 mAmp while i'm using a 1450mAmp battery. so to my question, can we have our cake and eat it; in that can we plug both phones in at the same time? Or at least plug one into the 2.1 amp socket for a quicker charge; or will it fry the battery/phone circuits? or is it battery dependant, ie it what the battery can take rather than what the charger gives?
asyou've gathered, wiggly amps is not my field.

any info gratefully received.

best regards

Its what the battery takes. And it drops away as it charges, and falls to zero.

They all work the same way.

Mine was one of the first, and the cheapest, here: http://www.wheelchairdriver.com/usb-pow ... e-port.htm

Yeas ago... There are now 2 and 3 amp ones available to convert. And plenty of Higher amp inverters that will go from 24v to whatever you wish.

All of them can, you just cut the wire in the XLR plug that goes to the central pin.

The one from Monster without a cable might not stay in the XLR jack if you drive around while it is mounted.

I have a 10 watt version of those flexi solar panels to charge my van. I know I live in the UK where sun is pretty much AWOL most of the time but the best I ever measured from it was about 4 watts in bright sun aimed directly. So while it will eventually get a 12Ah battery up to full power it may take a long month or so.

If its the same efficiency etc it will give 2 watts peak output without a electronic peak power voltage detection system. About 1/2 a watt averaged over a 8 hour outdoor day. Or say 4 watt hours per day. A 12Ah 12v battery is 144 watt hour. So 36 days from flat to full.

A 3.7v 1300mah phone battery, takes 5.8 watt hours to fill. That 12Ah battery seems to be simply miles too big for the job!
Or if you prefer the solar cells will make enough power outdoors, aimed at the sky, on average to charge the phone in about a day and a half. Less if its sunny, more if its not.

Is it a good product? I don't know. I would prefer to see about 5x the solar panels and a 2000mah (2Ah) battery instead. That 12Ah 144wh battery will charge around 100 phones.

I am in the UK so if anyone who cannot make one wants to send me the parts I will put it together for you and it will cost you just the return postage.

It will give me something to do in the day, it would only work if you live in the UK or the post cost would be to high. Just tell me how long you want the cable.

Or, we could just tell people they are not looking hard enough (i.e. not wanting it enough), or it's really simple just to "knock one up" by taking something or other apart, detaching this or that, re-soldering this diode to this capacitor, and hey presto! :D What?

There's no substitute for knowledge or hands on experience.

Therefore you may not recognise or understand what you are looking at or for. So no amount of looking will help and you may in fact already be seeing the solution but not recognising the fact... Or for the same reasons not seeing the possibilities or the clues and so not searching for the right things.

There comes a point where you cannot help without either doing it yourself or being there hands on!

I recently found out about this tutorial and have to say it's pretty neat, though the chances of me being able to make it myself are slim.

Questions:

Is there a video tutorial of this online? I work so much better when I'm able to see all angles of something during a tutorial. (*I'm even willing to pay for someone to record themselves making one of these, if it gets to that level.)

Lastly, if it does get to "that point," would anyone be up for the challenge?

Thanks :)

Seriously, there are now commercial versions of the same thing available. When I did that page there were no cheap simple ways to do this.

And its simple to do, cant see how a vid could make it any simpler. There are 101 ways to achieve the same thing, its just that this way was simple and importantly cheap. And I had those things kicking around.

Review this thread, there are plenty of links and people that will make you one cheaper if not.
