It will be fine! Been using one for a few weeks to charge van, chairs, and my stupid mower every day due to the BMS ruining its battery. Once you figure out the interface, memory, settings and it becomes familiar, it becomes very easy. I suggest that you read the instructions several times that are posted on here.

Everyone else is getting one!

Shirley_hkg, is there any chance you can get me one ready to go with mod already installed and tested like Burgerman?

I could do with a backup PSU after my last one blew up three months ago and I'm still waiting for it to be fixed. Bought it from http://www.nexusmodels.co.uk/s1500-powe ... arger.html nexusmodels not returning my emails.

Did you really pay nearly £300 for that PSU? You could buy 2xZXD2400's and have change left over for the price of the S1500!

Big power supplies are notoriously unreliable anyway.

One of the best ways to kill one is connecting a big 24V battery in reverse. Its very exiting though. Only did that once.

Yes, full price power supply's are not cheap. The Digimess 3040 is £500 new. The Chargery S1500 was brand new and only charging at 1Amp when it blew up :cussing Its got a 24 months warranty so I will be getting it replaced or my cash back.

The Digimess 3040 is £500 new.

Ebay, ex demo ones (brand new in box, unused with mains cable still sealed in bag) on ebay for 199, and 220 uk pounds. My two.

But these shirley ones are 3000 watts, 60V and 50A capable, and have a 3 stage user adjustable charger buit in, for half that!

Apart from losing .7V nothing. Just set supply .7 higher. Should be OK. Cant happen if you avoid 4mm connectors and use andersons.

I fitted two .18A 25mm thick fans in the fancy case, replacing the noisy .27A 15mm thick ones it came with. There's plenty of space for the thicker fan in the rear and just enough in the front. That should tamper the noise. :fencing

Finally got the nice case fitted etc. I got into the service menu, entered the code, and went to section 8 to set the over current and over voltage protection to 50A and 30V.

But the max values its letting me set for those is 3.0V and 3.0A. :fencing

Postby LROBBINS » 06 Jul 2018, 11:12

Arrived a few minutes ago. One month exactly from payment till arrival and only 7 days from when it was shipped - that is very fast. I am up to my eyeballs, as usual, in too many projects, so all I've done is power it up and saw that the display comes live and the (indeed noisy) fans run, then put it back in the box and on the shelf. BTW, to my eyes the stock rack mount case is not all that ugly, though I did buy the fancy case and will eventually move it over and add an Anderson.

Customs, or the post office, as often happens ignored the reduced-VAT document and charged the full 22% but only on a declared value of USD150, so even with a E7.90 postal service charge it was all of E25.80 to pay on delivery. Total price remains very, very reasonable for a 3000 Watt bench supply/charger. Do I owe you anything to cover the PayPal fee?

Thanks,
Lenny

Thats EXACTLY what they do with anything from the US delivered to the UK. All the correct paperwork, and declarations, and they charge VAT regardless. And then the postal service adds another 12 to 20 pounds to the bill for the privelidge of collecting it from customs. And its one hell of a fight to get them to refund it.

However I never seem to be charged anything from china, hong kong, or australia, etc.

The fans can be significantly quieted. In fact my front one is unplugged. Only the rear one running and its much quieter. Stays cool regardless as long as the restrictive front grill is replaced. Many cheap grills on ebay to keep fingers out that flow well.

I will end up with one 25mm thick rear fan only fitted and a finger guard at the front I suspect.
