To protect the USB on the PC. I dont think it does anytthing when you short or add power to that 3 pin. Could be wrong though as electronics are not exactly my strong point. All black magic to me!

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opto-isolator An interesting read.

Wouldn't it be possible to add an opto-isolator somewhere in the BT setup to prevent accidents like this? Something similar to this... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/272239096945

its already tight in there - if you have to add more stuff inside - gets harder -

best bet - use external unit and not worry about it

when you do yours - maybe you can make a little video or step by step instructions for others to follow - if you up to doing it

dont think many more will try it inside now - its a risk you take - worse case - you buy another one

yes it is - but i wont be doing it again internal - charger is shipped out today - they will get it tuesday - i asked them to let me know what failed - i told them i added BT etc, and it worked fine - then it didnt power up at all any more -

not that it will mean anything to them - i have to pay - but just to let them know - everything was done correct once i actually did it inside - and it did work - for a short time - anyway - dosnt matter - its done - i moved on - will make the two BT i have here into external units and i be fine - cheers
