Question About Black Tires (Tyres)

Postby rustyjames » 18 May 2021, 00:32

My Mother has light colored carpets at Her house and I'm concerned that the black tires sold on ebay that are listed as Scooter/Wheelchair/Etc. will leave tracks on the carpets. What say the experts? Here's a listing on what I'm referring to: https://www.ebay.com/itm/283370232348?h ... SwTfBcXNLt

TIA

I dont have light carpets. So dont really know. But SOME at least are marked NON MARKING on the sidewalls. Such as the ones fitted to the Q500, Q700 chairs.

I run black tyres and they will mark carpet over time, if you are a daily user I think you will have carpet marks within six months but even if you have grey tyres the wheelchair wrecks carpet within a couple of years

Thank you both. The carpet has been in place for around 30 years but still in relatively good shape. I don't want to leave tracks all over. I can't find black 2.50-2.80 tires here that specifically have non-marking on them.

Go to the sunparts website. Look at the Q700 chairs for e.g. Then look at front caster tyres. Get the part number and order from any sunrise dealer.

Search sunparts. User guest. Pass guest.

I looked there and did find the part numbers but they don't specify black, so more than likely they're gray. I've never seen Sunrise chairs with black tires. I know Quantium (Pride) uses them, I'll have to check them.

All the new Q series chairs only come with black tyres. Grey is not even an option.

Take a look here:

UK site includes rear drive versions. ALL Q chairs = black tyres. https://www.sunrisemedical.co.uk/powere ... heelchairs

EU site all Q chairs = black tyres. ONLY. https://www.sunrisemedical.eu/powered-w ... heelchairs

US site doesent, no rear drives. But still all Q chairs = black tyres! https://www.sunrisemedical.com/power-wh ... rs/quickie

Only yesteryear chairs that are not even available in the EU or UK for e.g are still on grey tyres. They went all black a couple of years ago. EVERY chair!

Q100, Q200, Q300, Q400, Q500, and my own Q700 in front, mid, hybrid, and rear drive are all black! Every one. No grey is on the parts list OR prescription form. You cannot order grey at all. The flat free and pneumatic tube type are all black. You cannot get grey if you try!

Definitely not the same over here: https://www.quickie-wheelchairs.com/Qui ... hair/2976p

The only chairs I've seen here with black tires are Quantium. I've looked and all I can come up with is the scooter tires. I'm concerned that when they get wet they'll really do a number on Mom's carpet.

That s NOT one of the Q chairs. Its an ancient old design.

Please take a look at the Q chairs that I linked to!!!

Q100, Q200, Q300, Q400, Q500, Q700. In rear, mid, front, or hybrid...

Wheelchairs and carpets just don't work well together. My apt has some industrial plastic type of carpet...a very short tight weave. Even that is showing some wear after a couple years. I think it's made of plastic.

One link Burgerman sent you is for the new United States Sunrise Quickie chairs. The link you have is for Southwest Medical. Never ordered from them but they are a separate company if I'm not mistaken.

Plus he is looking at the WRONG chairs!

That site he linked to is just a reseller, a dealer. And even on there the Q series chairs are all black tyres only.

Understood that most of the new chairs come with black tires. I'm just saying that it's not easy to find "non marking" black, 2.50-2.80 tires here. Also, Quickie still sells the S6 series chairs cheers

ALL the black tyres fitted to all the Q SERIES CHAIRS (not quickie) are NON MARKING. Q100, Q200, Q300, Q400, Q500, Q700. In every place they are sold. So if you order front or rear tyres from the MANUFACTURER by the part numbers given then thats what you will get.

Forget about the old quickie chairs of yesteryear that america is still selling. Those are nothing to do with this.

Thanks, Swan. I did see those and if the wheels would work on a Quickie I'd probably buy them. I thought about buying them and reselling the wheels but I already have a lot of stuff to unload. don't need to add to the piles. cheers

Thank you, Mr. B, appreciate the effort, but I'm not coming up with anything over here with those part numbers when I do a search. I understand that all the new model chairs come with black, non-marking tires, but trying to find a set of the 2.50-2.80 over here seems impossible.

when I do a search

And I did not expect you would!!!

Thats the part number that you would give a SUNRISE DEALER to order you the specific parts.

Its POSSIBLE that the part number is different in the US. I doubt it. If so, do as I originally suggested and look at the parts number for any of the Q chairs in the US. Note that Q doesent mean "quickie" and it certainly does not mean those old design Quickie Sxxx chairs. Only the Q100, Q200, Q300, Q400, Q500, Q700 models. Then order that specific part number from a sunrise dealer anywhere!!! Been saying this over and over since post 2.

Call SUNRISE. Not a reseller. Get the part number for the correct front tyre on a Q500H. Order using that number. Or the ones I gave you. Online from https://www.sunrisemedical.com/user-res ... ine-dealer

Heres a list of front, mid and rear drive part numbers for the Q700 chairs from a US website. Includes all part numbers. https://www.haltija.fi/wp/wp-content/up ... Q700-M.pdf 35mb so be patient! Slo server.

Without a shadow of a doubt. And they wont really help any more than grey tyres will. Because most of the wear and tear or marking of carpets comes from the dirt outside in the world. Tar from roads, dirt and dust. Some may be from the black rubber. But its a percentage. Unless wet. Then you may get some marks.

I stopped worrying about the difference years ago. And fitted dark carpets and dark grey tiles everywhere just in case...

According to my R-net display I have only done 160 miles on my Quickie Q500F with black non marking tyres.

One drive wheel has already lost most of its tread pattern and the other is nearly as bad. If they all wear this fast I wouldn't recommend buying them.

Non marking tyres lack the chemicals that make tyres last. Like carbon thats what makes car tyres black. Non marking ones dont use that they add a die. They are all basically the same. They can be traditional grey, or black or green, red, or camoflage. They use dies for colour.

Non marking tyres of any colour all age and wear faster. Its the compromise we make. Grey will not last better. Of course a front drive chair has a lot of weight over the caster wheels too. Which likely makes it worse. Tyres are wear items.

I buy caster tyres in sets of 8. And real black tyres last much better... Try a set of those 8 inch ones I put on the Q700R. That Expresso fitted to his Quickie 2xxx chair.

The caster tyres are showing wear as well but not as much as the drive wheels. I'm not worried as it is going to be the WCS' problem. They insisted I had this chair, after all. I guess I shall be phoning them earlier than I thought.

I just wanted to warn anyone thinking of parting with good money for these tyres.

Do you use it primarily indoors or out?

Be interesting to see what tyres they choose to replace them with. Since they wont likely understand that they are non marking black?
Are these tyres also solid ones? I presume so, since they wear fast.
