X8 configuration

Postby Fred005 » 06 Jun 2021, 15:51

Hello.

I'l Fred, from France, not to much familiar with english, and even less less with a computer !

I've a Magic Mobility X8.
I do ''little'' changes on it, to make it for what I need ( I cut the frame to make it longer -10cm- to improve stability. I do with my X8 95% of huge off road. The 2 original eavy 74Ah lead battery are now in my garage and because I got 10cm more room for the batteries I installed 2 LiFePO4 110Ah. In my mountainous area I can ride my X8 for 45 until 55 km depending on the D+. Because of I was helicopter pilot, the joystick is in a new place I love ! I changed the eavy seat and footrest and now my X8 is 110kg, so 40kg less.)

So, with a solder, grinding or so I've no problem, but with PC ... Yes I have !

I bought, with the help of Woody, a dongle, A model, but with the help of BurgerMan I can connect it to my X8 and to my PC.

I need to change some values, especially the ''Maximum Turn Acceleration''.
This standard value is really stupid AND dangerous.
When I'm climbing a huge hill, and maybe my X8 need 60% of power, if I need to turn, even a little little bit, this value decrease the power to 40% and I'm stuck.
I want also to access some configuration with OBP when I'm in the field without bringing with me my expensive dongle.

So, my request is here:
Could some one editing me the .R-net folder with the values I need ?

Thanks.

Fred.

1.I dont think programming will fix your problem because that weird steering thing that those chairs do is caused by the way the front wheels are free to steer when some resistance is encountered. So it just "flops" to full left or right. Its a problem of the steering design - not programming. So you will never be able to fix this properly whatever programming settings you choose.

I am presuming R-Net? Cant see from the picture.

2. Bcause it does not steer like a normal powerchair I couldnt guess what settings will work for you. To do so would be difficult. But I would suggest you first remove all the ABS walls. And then set the following 4 settings all to 100.
TURN ACCELERATION.
TURN DECELERATION.
MINIMUM TURN ACCELERATION.
MINIMMUM TURN DECELERATION.
And then set TURN SPEED to whatever you think works best. Probably lower than it is now. And also MINIMUM TURN SPEED too.

You can do this with the DEALER dongle. Theres a work around. You can edit the files with the OEM software.
See PM.

Also, you can fit 200Ah in the place a 74Ah lead battery comes from. You could likely get 300Ah in you extended chair. Your 100Ah battery isnt really enough. It will double your range. But you would get 3 to 4 times that original range with a 200Ah battery. And 5 times more with say 250Ah. Whats more your battery will last a hell of a lot longer.

Once programmed to respond in real time, rather than all time based, you will struggle as that joystick has no reference point to rest your hand on. And unlike an aircraft joystick that is 2 feet long, with far greater travel, the bumps that rock you side to side will turn the chair.

I really have no problem with the place of my joystick.
In an helicopter, when doing sling work, with 150ft long line, you must be very very accurate with its joystick. It's inside a 2€ coin the circular movement.

200Ah or more is in my mind. Just waiting for the money !!!

Thanks, Burgerman for your MP.
If possible I will prefer to send my file to somebody who will be more ... precise than me with a PC !!!

Exactly. A 2 euro coin will drive a properly programmed powerchair to almost full steer movement at every bump. 3mm is going to make it respond. Its a 2 inch long joystick! Its total movement is only a bit greater than your 2 euro coin. And thats FULL movement. The same as moving your helicopters joystick to full deflection.

THAT will be a huge problem once its programmed to respond in almost real time.

Send me your profile. Post it here.

Incidentally. I fly helicopters too. Like this one. This is with a total of 1.3 inches of stick movement. You NEED a hand reference to be able to have any precision. In this case its the transmitters case.

This has a bit better power to weight than the ones you fly. And is very responsive! My local flying feild has at least 30 of these things. Obviously full collective, full cyclic, and rpm governer and tail gyro.

Watch to the end.

Heres FOUR year old Justin. Doing the same thing! Watch the way he holds the trasmitter and moves the sticks.

Yes we dont need that level of control. But he isnt getting josled around in the seat is he? You need a reference for proper control. For you hand or palm.
Notce that he cradles the TX watch his little finger.

Take a copy of your existing settings file. And post it here! I will alter it and send it back.

Are french hospitals safe? Macron and the EU have been predictably useless with everything.

Yes, it'll do. I can lock the steering in the forward direction (with 2 front wheels straight). Without this possibility, forget the Off Road with an X8. I had a crash with an X8 without the steering lock in a deep downhill. Steering turn without my permission, the X8 ended up the track and the X8 fel down on one side !

18 months ago I used an X8 with the steering lock and *Maximum Turn Acceleration or *Maximum Turn Speed (I don't remember) set at 100% and it was perfect, for what I need, for me.
Unfortunately the owner is dead and can't ask him to help me.

When I'll be back from hospital (if I'm back !!! Lol) i'll send you my settings file.

Good week for all.

Hi.

I'm wondering if all 120A Power Control Modul can fit my X8.
Mine is a D50903.12.
A D50946.10 with correct file setting will fit too my X8 ?

Thanks.

Any 120A Rnet power module should fit and will just need a clone of your settings file uploading to it. BEFORE you try driving it.

Will it be the same for the joystick ? A R-net one.

Good morning.

A question I've more.
I think I understood only the R-net LCD joystick can be connected to a dongle.
But, once the settings are injected in the Power Control Modul, will a R-net LED joystick work on my X8 ?

Any joystick. And yo can swap them at any time. If you fit one with less buttons etc then you may lose access to certain things. All of it works together plug and play. The programming lives in the power module.

Many thanks for your help.
I understand, with less key no access to some options.
But, I've no option installed on my X8.
My Home Made steering lock is connected on a switch; I can switch it on/off without playing in the joystick menu, and it's the same for my front/rear lights.

So, soon 09:00 here, my first RdV of the day in hospital is coming ...

Kind regards.

You COULD posibly fit a gyro only to the front steering axle. So that it self corrects as terrain knocks it off course. And so it uses its motor power to prevent it going to full lock in error. The programmer will allow you to configure this too.
