INVACARE MK4 TRCM issues ?

Postby shirley_hkg » 29 Nov 2021, 00:51

My chair has tilt and recline , but I only used Tilt with TRSS toggle switch so far.(as photo)

Today I went to resume Tilt & Recline by installing a Tilt & Recline Control Module (TRCM).

Hand held programmer showed
- Tilt actuator (OPEN)
- Recline actuator (OPEN)
- 24V DC supply (OPEN)
- Tilt & Recline potentiometers (OK)

Other programming functions seemed alright .

Checked all connections were good. I thought it were a bad TRCM unit. I have extra units , so I tried another 2 TRCM.
However , 3 TRCM units ALL show the same results. banghead
I doubt they are all bad (with the same issues), though they were ebay bought.
No joy , so back to TRSS setup. Actuator and 24V link are OK.hanged

Could it be the chair's controller issues , or something I missed ?
Your advice are much appreciated . cheers

My recollection is that basically the inside of that module is four microswitches that are tripped by the joystick depending on which way you push it. They are all fed from one side of the DC in line, and send the other side to a separate wire in the cable that goes to the actuator control box (It's been a while since I took the one that came on my project chair apart...) I forget whether it is active high or low, or if all four switches are wired the same.

They are standard commodity micrroswitches so would be easy to swap, and also have all three of the standard terminals (Common, NC, NO) so it is possible to rearrange the internal wiring as you wish.

Not sure how much else I can help with at this point, and the module is not where I can get access to it to open it up again.

So. That may hint to a defective controller (power module) .

Not the TRCMs .

Right ?

Looking at the picture again, I'm not at all sure the switch you have is the same as the one I have, so may not be what I described for internals... Working from memory (I can't get to the thing now) Mine was a metal box that was 3-4" square on top and maybe half that deep. The top was fairly heavy sheet metal and screwed into the bottom box, The net result was a 4 position momentary switch with a center neutral. It you had two actuators it allowed you to set one pair of switches for each one. If you had more than 2, you had to assign one switch to each actuator so that it reversed direction each time you made the switch.

I found the entire setup clunky, so I ended up wiring the seating functions to discrete DPDT (ON)OFF(ON) toggle switches and switching the power module / joystick to a Pilot+ setup...

That toggle switch is for single actuator. I want to shift to a TRCM , and that is the setup you are referring to.
