F55 castor - options?

Postby rune » 31 Jul 2022, 17:54

Hi everyone

What are people using nowadays for front castor wheels on an F55? I assume the original ones are no longer available.

On on side of one of mine, the seat where the bearing sits is worn, which means even with threadlock, the bearing does not stay in tightly.

Bearing doesent stay in?
1. Itsin the frame. So thats a frame problem.
2. It cannot come out as theres a caster on one end and a large nut on the other. So I dont understand...

Sorry, maybe I wasn't clear. The bearing in the wheel itself; there is one on each side of the split rim. It's able to rotate inside the wheel and also move side to side.

So that sits TIGHTLY in the wheel rim itself. Needs to be tapped out and in with a hammer. If not replace caster wheel. And if the axle is worn, then replace axle. But again, there are 3 spacers on that axle. One each side, and one between the bearings. So nothing CAN come out or move. So again I am confused.

It's on the chair at the moment, so I will need to disassemble to take a picture.

The bearing does not sit tightly into the wheel - it looks like the recess it sits in has enlarged in diameter and it now allows some play. The other three (the other half of this wheel, and both halves of the other wheel) do not have this problem and the bearing fits in properly with no play.

I am assuming these wheels are no longer available, so I am asking what else would fit and if others have experience in replacing these with something else this is available.

I have used 4 different types of caster wheel on F55s.

And now have another set from a salsa to go on the next time...
Non of those were an exact fit. But as long as they all have the same diameter shaft 12mm and the correct centre spacer, between bearings they all fit. Its just the 2 outer spacers that may be too long or short. Can be dealt with by adding 12mm washers, or shortening the spacer. Or ordering a 12mm bore tube on eBay the right size.

Yes. From sunrise or ebay. Also ANY like the jive, Q 700R, or any other brands. I have some puma ones here too. Look identical in fact. As long as they are 12mm inner bearing diameter, and 4 inch caster rims.
