How do i make connectors like the SB50 easier to unplug?

Postby fishinjunky » 09 Aug 2022, 14:47

The sb50 connector we use is difficult for my mom to unplug takes alot of strength. What are some ways to make disconnecting them easier? I was thinking using handles and a lubricant but not sure what kind of lubricant to use on the connectors. Any recommendations for what lubricant to use?

Handle makes it easier.

So does use. A little wd40. And if careful a small file to reduce the "lip" edge on the top of the contacts. And there are actually low pressure contacts available.

All that said, I just used mine a lot and you get used to them, or they get looser. Not sure which. But I no longer notice this resistance to connect or disconnect.

One question.
Are these correctly fitted? If someone has soldered them badly, it can make them very hard to use as the contacts no longer move freely in the shell as intended.

File the 4 "bumps" down a little.

So that they slide over eash other more easily.

Yea they are. We made sure to follow the guide you have on the main page we realy like that method.. It's not super hard to unplug she manages unplugging them pretty well I was just thinking of ways to make it a little easier on her. We do love the sb50 regardless. They make a really solid connection.
I think a handle and a little wd40 will do the trick. Thanks BM

:shh: It will be much easier , plug and unplug , if the battery end were bolted to chair.

If that plastic handle isn't comfortable on your hand, you could make a leather or webbing loop and bolt it to the connector. Free if you have the bolts and a ratchet strap that can stand to lose a little length.

I *NEVER* use WD40 as a lubricant... It is barely usable as a cutting fluid, and is OK for cleaning off labels and other uses of that sort, but it is the 'crack cocaine' of lubricants, as it dries into a sticky gum that can only be cured by using more, rinse and repeat....

Much better is a TINY amount of Never-seize or other conductive grease, or something like Triflon or silicone lubricant that dries clean
