6 pl8's

Postby Burgerman » 30 Dec 2023, 03:22

I now have 6 of these...

None have ever failed in a decade of use and abuse and I am 63 in april. So I think thats going to see me out.

The most recent was a supposed faulty one with mis calibrated voltages. But I tested it and measured everything. Its absolutely usable as it is. In fact better than many new ones. I dont see a problem at all. Thanks shirley!

So now to convert 3 more to BT. :fencing

Don't mention it.

By the way, how do you like the heavy weight PL8 balance leads ?

Love to see a photo of it taken by an exquisite Nikon lens. cheers

Cables are great. My Nikon Z7II has gone! I ordered a new camera body. A Nikon Z8, Currently in Charles de Gaul airport. I wached its 14 hour flight on a flight from HK or rather Landau island airport across about 12 countries last night on a flight tracking site! So until it gets here on the 3rd, no camera!!!

Camera: https://www.nikon.co.uk/en_GB/product/cameras/z-8
From HK: https://gadgetward.co.uk/collections/mi ... on-z8-body

This company is HK based. They normally deliver in 48 hours. But xmas and new year screwed everything up...

Fancy cameras or lenses actually make it harder to get a good photo. Although they give the chance to make a good picture great IF you know what youare doing. And the possibility to grab pictures in perfect detail, perfect focus and in creatinve conditions if:

You understand all the tech.
Have a good eye
And learn lots about photography.

For most they are a waste of money and an iphone will take better snapdhots or simple movies than this fancy gear will. But get it right, and then the difference can be night and day.

Take movies for e.g. A perfectly focused 2 minute 8k 10 bit N LOG Raw file will fill a 512GB memory card. So it had better be a F fast card, and huge costing many hundreds of pounds. And to edit raw 8K movies absolutely needs 128GB ram, a large fast hard disk and the top level CPUs. So a 5K computer and an 8K monitor... Its completely mental.

THIS page describes just some of the video capture options:
https://onlinemanual.nikonimglib.com/z8 ... fc_33.html
You really better know what you are doing and why...

Afer all that, you will get better photos from a cheap camera if you learn good composition and basic camera skills than you will from buying a better camera.
The best pen in the world doesent write better stories.

Forgot to mention. My Z8 camera arrived a week ago nearly. This thing has telepathic level focus. It somehow manages to decide what point you want to focus on, and sticks to that point like glue. Shake the camera, fire 20 frames per second as someone spins and runs and every shot is laser focused on the closest eye.

I am extremely impressed by this!
