Bounder wheelchair squeaking is driving me crazy

Postby fishinjunky » 02 May 2024, 13:51

The rear shocks or suspension on my bounder wheelchair is extremely squeaky over any little bump. I have lubricated everything an can't find the source of the squeaking. Other than completely disassembling the entire rear suspension not sure what to do. It almost sounds like it's coming from the spring itself. Anyone else with a Bounder have the squeaking issue?

If I'm unable to fix the squeaking I won't be getting another bounder. It so squeaky I feel disruptive anywhere driving in public especially indoors. :cussing
I would disassemble the suspension and lubricate if I had hand function. At this time disassembling isn't a option

I have Dupont silicone lubricant but lost the straw and can't really get in tight spots without the straw

What about this lubricant?

i feel its coming mostly from the front forks springs etc, no amount of spray will change or help - i zone it out - i just wonder why it squeaks and how they will change the front end to get rid of that - i have spoken to them about it - the feeling i got was - they are looking into changing the front end at some point in the future

like they addressed the chain - and electronics - its a heavy duty chair built like a hummer of wheelchairs - and feels like it also - i cant complain much its holding up pretty good solid going on 6 years - its as good as new - but its my back up chair - i use it weekends mostly for the speed its a fun chair but everyday chair it would get annoying

Anything liquid should stop a squeek temporarily. But that does not sound like suspension to me. Link is dead. But you need to find out for sure what the issue is first.

Im not sure it is either. Im going to try hard to locate it today. I worry it could be a broken part. Either way I have to fix it. I dont know about you but a loud squeaking like this severely irritates me to the point i hear it in my sleep.

Well it does irritate but only because I then know I must find out what it is about! In case its serious. Things like broken frames or motor casings can squeek. Loose bolts. Bearings in housings. Etc.

It is happening as the casters rotate from pointing forwards to pointing backwards and vice versa.

If you ever figure out how to get rid of it - let me know -

i dont think it will ever go away - i think the first two days i got my chair it didnt make the noise - after that it started and that was it - always there -

i checked - sprayed the front caster springs etc, nothing - i left it alone and got used to it - zoned it out- there are times on flat even roads - its quiet fine

but those flat even roads are far in between - so cant sneak up on anyone for sure -

unless in your case its really worse - can be something - from that video - i dont feel it is - sounds very similar to mines -

hopefully maybe you find the solution - give them a call - ask them where its coming from or what you can try - i am sure your not the first to bring it up to them.

I had the exact same issue with my Bounder! WAsn't quite as loud and yes it seemed like it was coming from the rear but I could never get an exact location on it.

Not driving it right now so its not currenlty an issue, but yes you are not the only one.

I've been trying to locate a squeak on my B400 - I finally narrowed it down to the left drive wheel. Swapped the wide wheels for the originals and the squeak went away. Regrease the shaft, bolts etc no more squeak but these are just mating surfaces there shouldn't be movement there but they still managed to squeak even after retightening everything. I thought it was going to be a new motor or something

Careful proper assembly such as lictite or grease in the correct places is the big thing that no manufacturer does. And it does many good things. For e.g your squeek... If theres movement and its not loctited to prevent it, or greased to stop wear then it frets, and wears and gets worse over time. Doesnt mattery if this is bearings in housings, motor casing and gearbox or mounting bolts, wheels or seating parts or whatever. This is why I usually strip everything on a new chair and assemble with care, and loctite blue or red or bearing loctite (depending on what it is), run loom and cable tie everything correctly, and check EVERYTHING over thoroughly.

Yes its a pain. And takes time. But its an investment in your future problems and frustrations. Of course in the same way that I can spot a rented house at half a mile because its not their property, so they dont do anything at all that causes them any effort or cost. The same happens to chairs. I am getting an NHS chair soon. I will not be doing the same thing to that. Because its not "mine" or should I say not my problem. I will use it and when it fails, I will ring them to sort it out.

You treat things that you buy £££ with your own cash and that you have to replace very differently. Which is another reason the Socialist NHS is an inefficient money pit. Please note I cant spell innneffficient. :fencing
