Good luck with it - It looks like you've made a good start anyway

Nice one ...any chance of some exact dimensions for the pins and their positions?

Woody, The best I can do is the Spring pins a 25 mm x 0.053. The holes are 4 mm OC apart and 8 mm up from the centre of the bottom pin. The spring end sticks out 9 mm Very hard to get an more accurate measure. The spring end of the pin is a smaller diameter so there is some play there. I used a 0.051 drill and some Crazy Glue. Hope I can get the cable stuff mastered. Might be back to you with some questions.

This revised and clearer? ...pic may help.
LED's are NOT required ...they just show that a signal is flowing...so they aren't in this pic.
Things are GREATLY simplified.. IMO ... IF you can reconnect the 5v in the USB plug and use that as the 5v power supply for the 7404 chip.
NOTE:- ANY two A - Y "pairs" of chip input/outputs can be used.

Woody, Good drawing. Do I need to install the Disk Driver that came with the cable?

Yes ...follow any instructions that came with lead.
There are drivers on the disc for various flavours of Microsoft Operating Systems.

Woody, What do you mean by "not connected in USB plug" ?

The red wire is present in the lead ...but chopped short inside the USB plug.
I popped open the casing ... cut into the rubber retaining wedge and added in a small length of wire to attach the existing wire to the 5v USB pad.

My cable has only 3 wires. Guess I will have to run a seperate wire for power.
Blk- GND
Wt- TX
RD- RX

Woody, Bottom row is Programming Port right? Can I connect the BLK from the USB to the same place as Pin 2?

OK.... All wire colours match my pic?
If so then the ... USB - Black ... Pin 2 ( chairs negative ) and Chips GND are all joined together as a COMMON wire.

This is perhaps even clearer.
ALL grounds ( GND ) joined and become the COMMON wire of the circuit

Common or GND ( Ground ) is normally the negative of a circuit...it is the wire that ALL signals/voltage travel through.

Ummmmmm....
Plug in your cable to a USB Port.
Windows should say "found new hardware" .. hopefully it will find the drivers required on the disc and instal them for you.

Get back to me if that doesn't work.
EDIT .. The USB cable that your plugging in should become a "virtual" RS232 Port... COM ??

Woody, It dose not work. Check wires several times. Installed USB Driver - Ok, Checked for 5v-Ok. Checked to see if connector is making contact-Ok ( I have an Old broken joystick apart ). All wires check out.

Is 1 + 2 right?

I'm not totally surprised that the wheelchair protocol seems different to my scooter and forklift controllers ..but a little disappointed.
The only thing you can check is the cable ....
download this... DACIO RS232 Terminal
http://www.freewarefiles.com/DACIO-RS-T ... 39574.htmlConnect together the RX and TX pins of you plug .. run the prog ...type some rubbish and the screen and it should echo /loop back what you have typed ... additionally on the very bottom line of the screen you'll see bytes OUT & bytes IN ... if the cable is made correctly OUT = IN .

Additionally check that the wiring ....looking at the solder points in the BACK of the plug ... match my pic.

Pics of your construct might help in Identifying wiring problems ..but won't help if we are ultimately flogging a dead horse.... I.E. It will never work for Curtis wheelchair controllers...IT WAS ALWAYS A MAYBE.
If yours doesn't work and when BM finishes testing my cable ...which he should have by now ..I'll happily post it to you for you to try.

I think it would be hard for you to check wires from a pictures. I have checked several times and will recheck. I do know the pins are making contact with the controller as I metered them out.
