I really should have gotten 2 of these but like BM I'm in savings mode for now. Will you have any available in the future?

This is by far the best psu a person can get especially for the price. From what I've seen simular power supplies go for 400$ or more

The server 24v psu type I'm using is risky with a iCharger.

Quite possible, when we met a minimum lot.

We should get an adjustable PSU.
I had no expectation of it when I diy the first unit.
It is good , and not one died so far.
Do need more consideration when use on 117V.

I noticed on my newest ZXD2400, it only allows me set one tenth of a volt, e.g. 3.6v. It doesn't allow you to set one hundredth of a volt, e.g. 3.65v but does show this when charging cells.

Is it a setting in the factory menu I need to change?

Always 0.1V adjustable.

It just makes full use of the 3-digits display, when showing below 10 volt.

Also the display tends to jump around a little. But my testmeter says otherwise, its very voltage stable.

What are your thoughts about being commissioned (payed in advance) to build one for 117v or two in parallel? I'm not serious about it right now but I wanted to ask if ìts something you would consider in the future?

It is 100V…240V capable.

You don't 2 to power a 40A icharger. It takes 50V, so you still have over 1,500W per 1 unit , even running from 117V A/C though.

No need as this PSU is 3kW capable from a 240v source. Most of the world uses 220-240v in everyday appliances, only a very few countries use 110-120v including the US. czy

Anyone ever have issues with supply noise? Or it not regulating voltage well?

So was helping a friend set up his charging system, and was using a modified ZXD that he got from AliExpress, and a PL8. It worked fined when charging each cell individually, but when we went to do the first full charge of complete pack, the PL8 throttled the output current to ~10Amps with a message on the supply tab of "Power Status = Reduced (Supply Noise)". I was also surprised to see that the voltage out of the power supply had dropped to ~28.5V when under load, despite having been set to 30V to start with. I guess I would have expected better output regulation. Has anyone seen something like this before?

I was going to try running the self calibration but it looks like the AliExpress seller set a lock password, sigh. So will need to work through getting through that first, but any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks!

(1) The power supply can be unlocked. The Google-translated instructions have been posed on this forum, though I don't remember where.
(2) The PL8 manual recommends a supply voltage of 36.4 V. 30 V may be too low for the PL8's boost/buck converter to cope.

Yeah, have the instructions, just need to figure out the password. Doesn't appear to be "88".

Wait, what? I think my manual lists 32V as the max input to the PL8.

Its all that italian heat lenny lost the plot. 32V and it will probably trip. 30V sees the sensible max. I have 2 of those ZXD from shirley on here and they are pretty stable, actually increasing volts a little as load increases.

Been running my first PL8 at 30v for the past 7 years, never had any problems. The ZXD jumps to 30.2x volts under load on my setup.

I've seen this a few times. More or less a buck-boost transition issue.

Try 24V or 30.2V with adequate headroom of amp.

Forgot password ? Try all that 99 combinations.

Thanks, turns out that he had the current limit on the supply set to only 1amp above the above the supply limit set in the PL8. Giving more headroom allowed it to operate normally.

Still haven't gotten through the password yet. Tried the first several hundred numbers, but since there are 65000-ish possibilities, I'll probably end up either automating the testing of passwords using another microcontroller, or maybe see if I can pull the password value directly from the STM8 in the supply. But that is a project for a future day.

Is "60V 50A" the model of countries (U.K., Spain, Germany, France, Australia, Russia, etc) with 240 volts in the domestic electricity network?

Its the same model, be it 120V or 240V the only difference is that the maximum amps is reduced by half in japan and america.

So I and you can get 0 to 60V and 0 to 50A output. (3000 watts maximum @ 240VAC and 1500 watts @ 120VAC).

Theres also a 120V and 25A version available. Thats not a lot of use for us, but EV car people and solar people use them.

In the UK we have double wall outlets. Those are 13A 240v capable each. So I can connect two of those shirley ZXD supplies and charge at 6000 watts no pronlem. IF I had a 60V battery... At 100A. Or a 120V battery at 50Amps. Like some cars use.

OK. The next generation is out for trial. New features :
-Large screen
-Compensation for volt drop on cables (4 wires mode)
-Modes Selection - Power Supply , Charger , 3 Stage Charger.
-Polarity protection in charger mode
-Bluetooth connectivity allows firmware update and App

Talked to developer that a CV-timer can be added to give better protection against thermal runaway when charging SLA battery. When fully implemented , ZXD2400 will be a peerless beast to any stock charger / supply .
LROBBINS wrote:Shirley, perhaps you can ask the kit designer if on his next software revision he can add a timer for the CV stage (with an option of either going to float or turning the whole shebang off if it times out before reaching float transition current). He already has an auto-off timer (can be set to turn off if inactive for tot time), so adding another IF statement may not be too difficult.

The logic would be something like this:

IF voltage >= 0.98 x Vcv; start timer (above float, but allowing for imprecision in voltage measurement - or it could be calculated as half way between float value and CV value in case using something other than 930 for the float voltage calculation)
IF timer >= 8 hours or Amps <= 0.001 X base Amps; shut off or go to float. This will be higher than 0.001C10 = 0.0063 Amps but Eprom 74 = 1 is the lowest that can be set; e.g. if base amps = 30, it will be 0.03 Amps which is approximately 0.005C10 for the P1500, but I would guess awful close to as fully charged as with 0.001C10).
!

Beta models are undergoing debug trials . Wait and see.

I finally got this unboxed and starting to test. It ran cool and quiet while charging at 22A using the Anderson SB50 plug. Amazing.

I'm just going through some settings to make sure I understand them. I'm using it to charge MK Gels, so is this setting good for the 3 stage charge?

26.2 V and 0.2 A ?

You need to set it to:

20A is fine. I do a little more. MK say 23A is ok for GRP24.

CHARGE voltage 28.2V maximum at 20C (and a little less if its warmer than that). Say 28.00.
Then it needs setting to terminate this CV stage at the point where the battery current stops falling by 0.1A over 1 hour. This usually means that you will need to set 0,3A AND 27.0V on the "float" screen.

The float voltage needs to be around 13.5V (27.0V) and it should fall to this level when, as above the current drops automatically to 0.3A.
