It's done drunk2 drunk2 drunk2

I successfully moved programing data from the old 50A vr2 to 70A vr2. They are compatible to each other. I only have to set the limit and max currents to 70A in the motor section.

After plugging the 70A vr2 to the chair, the joystick was turned on normally. I read and saved its original programing data to a file. Then I successfully moved programing data from the old 50A vr2 to 70A vr2 and set max/limit currents to 70A. All were fine.

Today I went out to test the chair with the new 70A vr2. And a trouble happened. The chair was turned on normally and I drove it in about 20m. Then suddenly the battery gauge dropped down to 7/10 lights while the volt meter were showing 26.7V. I thought some settings in the battery section were wrong or did not suit the new controller. So I stopped, turned off the chair and asked my dad connect the programmer for checking. But now the chair cannot be turned on again. When my dad presses the power button on the joystick, nothing happens. There is no power on the xlr connector neither. He checked the power cable and it still showed 26.7V. It's very change.

I have a few questions:
1. Is there any way to check if the joystick is alive or dead?
2. If the joystick is still alive, how to wake it up?
3. What could cause that error above?

I attached programing files of my 50A vr2, 70A v2.

XLR should carry voltage , no matter it is dead or alive .

Check connection first.

No power at the XLR connector suggests a wiring or controller problem rather than a pod fault.

Check the wiring continuity from the controller to the XLR socket and check the power cables too the controller ( black box ) from the batteries.

Did you change the main fuse when you changed the controller?
if you didn't you might have blown it as it would be a lower amperage fuse than your new controller is capable of giving

NOTE...The joystick pod is not 70 Amp.... it simply supplies / receives a signal, it is the control module that is 70 Amp.

This is either a battery connection to the power module fault. Like blown fuse, bad connector or something.
A faulty bus cable from the power module.
A faulty new 70A power module.

Check the wiring continuity from the controller to the XLR socket and check the power cables too the controller ( black box ) from the batteries.

My dad just tested:
- The power cable is Ok, the voltage at the vr2 connector is 26.7V.
- Continuity test between the pos power socket and the pos pin (on the edge) of the 4-pin socket is Ok.
- Continuity test between the neg power socket and the neg pin (on the other edge) of the 4-pin socket is Ok.
- Continuity test between the pos pin of the yellow 4-pin connector and the pos pin of the xlr socket is Ok.
- Continuity test between the neg pin of the yellow 4-pin connector and the neg pin of the xlr socket Ok.
- Continuity test between the pos power socket and the pos pin of the xlr socket is FAILED.
- Continuity test between the neg power socket and the neg pin of the xlr socket FAILED.

He also tried to plug the joystick back to the old 50A vr2, the joystick was turned on normally. There was power on the xlr socket.

You can easily recognize that's abnormal, cannot you? Is the YELLOW CONNECTOR guilty of this fault? I mean it only physically matches the 4-pin socket but does not perfectly touch the pins. I note that the original 4-pin connector is usually GRAY.

does not perfectly touch the pins.
That is more than likely your problem.

Power to the pod comes from the back of the XLR socket ... here is a pic of the back of an R-net charging socket ..the VR2 is essentially the same.

LARGE wires RED and BLACK are for charging ...the smaller ones supply the pod with power .

Incase I have not been clear ...The two larger RED and BLACK wires are for BOTH charging the main batteries AND supplying battery volts to the two smaller red and black wires that power the pod.

The yellow wire in the pic is for programming and Inhibit.

To solve this problem, I will need an adapter cable to exchange 4-pin YELLOW CONNECTOR to 4-pin GRAY CONNECTOR, right? Do you know anywhere that is selling that adapter cable? Or do you know if those 4-pin YELLOW CONNECTOR and GRAY CONNECTOR have technical names? So I can google them.

I am baffled. Where IS this connector?
If its inside the joystick, why would it be the wrong connector? :eh:

For some reason the plug shape / type / colour ( now yellow was grey ) is different on the later VR2's

Ah. Why two different ones? Never used VR2.

Would seen a fine time to break out the soldering iron and fit a different 4 pin connector type.

Personally, I would have just gone with R-Net.

You could try Googling VR2 Extension cable or VR2 Extension Loom

Thanks woodygb, I found a VR2 extension cable. It's gray-gray but I think I can modify it to yellow-gray. The only problem is that I will have to buy it from overseas (on aliexpress), shipping will take a month.

@shirley_hkg: can you help me to search the gray vr2 extension cable and gray vr2 joystick on taobao? If they exist on taobao, I could buy them and shipping would be a lot faster.

The GRAY-GRAY extension cable just arrived. Unfortunately it's the same as the yellow connector. It matches the socket on the VR2 but continuity test fails. I see the codes "TYCO PA 66", "TYCO PA 66-GF" on the gray connectors and I found the link underneath. I guess TYCO PA66 is just a type of mobility connector. Its pins look smaller than the holes on the VR2 controller. So the socket on VR2 is just another type of mobility female connector. Its name might be similar as "TYCO PA66" and have bigger pins. Have you hear the connector name "TYCO PA66"? Do you know any connector which have the same size as TYCO PA66 but with bigger pins?

By now I would have fitted a totally different connector to both ends, or replaced the fly lead on the joystick completely with the low power joystick, or just soldered and heat shrunk the cable. Or whatever it takes.

Maybe that's the only remaining solution. I found a shop selling pins of various sizes 1.5mm, 1.8mm, 2.0mm. I will buy some and use the one that best fits VR2 socket. I have not given up yet banghead :fencing

TYCO connectors are not wheelchair-specific. Tyco is a division of TE-connectivity and makes connectors for just about any purpose under the sun, as well as relays, cables and many other things. If you search for Tyco you may find a place where you can look through the entire catalog (at least if this was not a cable made just for P&G)-

I would use these.

Those are 1.5mm. The sizes of 4P ones are exactly the same as the gray connectors. I ordered these 4P connectors and some pins of different sizes.
