RE: Ramp and locking system

Postby Cameron » 08 Aug 2013, 21:42

Hello
My van is a Chrysler T/Country
I am getting a Magic Mobility- Frontier V6 because of this sites recommendation and reviews I've read.
I was wondering about ramp width; can it be widened as it is a tight squeeze with the needed off road tires .
Presently I use an EZ lock and am looking for an alternative independent locking system that wont limit my ground clearance like the EZ Lock bolt
Any ideas?
I'm in the United States (NJ)
regards, Cameron

No its the width of the doorway.

Its a big chair, it can be used in a van but its not so easy.

My bolt is pretty short. Because I fitted the tie down up higher on two 40mm bars. And it leaves the bolt fairly high up.

Agreed - far as I know all the lockdown systems out there work on the same basic idea as the EZ-lock, namely a bolt off the bottom of the chair that goes into a locking plate...

You either have to have the bolt hanging down to reach the plate, or move the plate up to reach the bolt - the latter will reduce the ground clearance problems, but can cause problems with your foot rests depending on how far down they extend - pick your poison...

I've wondered about fitting some PTFE plastic ramps (or similar slippery material) to the van floor in front and back of the plate and / or the underside of the footrests to allow the chair to bump up and over the plate, but I don't know of anyone that has done that...

Thanks for that
if I work within the bolt VS foot pedal tradeoff, can I mount the bolt toward the rear of the chair frame rather than centered below my butt?

Its best under the drive wheels, but will work if its a bit forwards.

I'd be suprised if you could drive a your car from a V6 or X5- there too wide. I drive a Dodge Entervan and i cant get near enougth plus I'm off center when behind the wheel.

Same here, with a Rollx van. Get in, but not so easy. You are high too. But off centre, a bit wide. You COULD drive but its not ideal. Of course many things are not, and people do drive from them. You get used to it I suppose.
