Hi,

I have a puma 40 chair, failry new user and am in the processing of trying to get a drive from.

I have been through Motability and they have offerred me, with grants, a Sprinter, rear access. it only has 4 seats, including driver. It will not go in Multi storey car parks (I live in Norwich so a bit of a challenge) and does around 22 mpg.

Alternatively I can buy a 2nd hand caravelle with a lowered floor, side access and 5 seats with around 30mpg.

The VW will probably work out slightly more to pay up front but feels instinctively more useable to me. I am married with 2 sons and we often have additional passengers.

I would appreciate some advice as I will have either car for at least 3 years possible 5-7.

I wouldn't get either. I would likely get what I already have.

Its not got the VW build quality but is more usable, easier to drive from a chair, can get square on to the wheel without a fight etc.

Mine is Rollx (similar to braun) and cost me about half price from the US in dollars. Saving a fortune. Its LHD though. 30K brand new, delivered, hand controls fitted, electronic tie down fitted.

Has 3.8V6, good for 116mph eventually, power doors, tailgate, windows, central locking, cruise, aircon, built in satnav, etc etc.

Mine came via Bekker mobility. They imported it, already converted. Just fitted hand controls and tie down.

Steering Developments do the New Shape Chrysler Grand Voyager as a drive from wheelchair option.

They have a nice used one with PARAVAN 4 way joystick control.

Motability purchase more cars than any other organisation in the UK and they auction-off their used stock at very low prices - no able-bodied person wants an ex-gimp mobile.
