Can the cigar socket in a car suply 120W?

Postby snaker » 03 Oct 2017, 03:36

I intend to buy this plug. I will to use it to power a 12VDC inflator through the cigar socket in the car. The inflator's power is about 120W, can the cigar socket power it ... safely?

Short term, theoretically. Having tried it, I would say not. They get hot, things melt long term... :(

To inflate tyres, should be fine. That will take a quick pulse beyond 10A and then run at about 3 to 5A and only start pulling 10A at about 100psi or so.
