South Alabama Born

Postby WoundedWarrior » 14 Jul 2025, 08:25

A very early Good Morning to All. Tony here from South Alabama in the good ole USA. I recently got a Sunrise Medical Quickie Q700 UP-M chair that has the Paraplegic controls on it from an estate sale and looking to get it working for my wife. Don't really need the paraplegic controls so going to remove them and try to sell them. The wheelchair has a few issues, the seat functions work most of the time but can not get the chair to move forward or backward. Not sure why yet so a lot more reading to do on here and I am sure a lot of questions to ask as I know nothing about wheelchairs. Electrician by trade but with not schematics or diagrams I will be doing a lot of tracing of wires it sems. Sure glad I found this site, time to teach an old dog some new tricks. :joint

OK...

What are paraplegic controls?

I am paraplegic, and my joystick is perfect for control.

Paraplegic head controls, got the 2 cheek arms for movement and 2 other, one that powers on the controller and one for ??. Then there is a control in the headrest and haven't figured that one out yet. Nothing on Sunrise Medical about them that I have found. I had took the controls off but would not turn on so had to put them back on until I learn how to reprogram the chair.

I see.
A paraplegic has normal hands and arms. Only lower paralisis. So they use a normal joystick.
So those controls are not for us!

They may be used by some quadraplegics, and other deseases. Depending on inury.
They are not made by sunrise. Those are aftermarket, called head arrays etc. Many manufacturers and variations.

As for programming you need an R-Net dongle. And then the software may magically be found.

I see, shows how little I know but new to all this. So a dongle are those made for a particular manufacture, chair or are they a standard for most all chairs? A good place to look at buying.

Chair manufacturers in this case Sunrise medical dont make control systems. Theres about half a dozen different brands of controller, and some are now owned by the chair manufacturer. Not in this case. Yours is made by Penny and Giles, now a part of Curtis Wright, HQ in the UK.
Sunrise and other dealers of oter chair brands can sell you a programming dongle. Not cheap, and they try NOT to sell them They think that we shouldnt have them. Yours is an R-net system, as PG make several different systems.

Mine has the https://www.cw-industrial.com/sites/def ... ochure.pdf but have no idea how to use it. This may be too technical for me to tackle. Still dealing with the wife and her medical.

Those sell for a fair bit.
Is there a proper joystick too?
