ok time I introduced myself I am from hyden Kentucky U.S.A. I have a pride rival power chair I am trying to make a hunting buggy out of I put 3.50x8 tires on rear and 300x4 on front, rear tires are knobby tires like on dirt bike, I would like to put lithium batteries in it, they make them now looks like reg batt. I alsow would like to put a roboteq on to help pep up my motors any help or advice would really help. thanks lige

Those wont work, and offer no/little gain over the lead. Sadly.

ok I see you built you battery, what the cost for that battery, would that put more amps to my motors , or would I have to put a roboteq on,i put bigger tires on my chair and im having stering problems can anybody help me

Depending on the stall current on the motors a roboteq may or may not give more torque. We don't know that. But you don't just 'put a roboteq on' its seriously complex!

And there i no good straight swap lithium battery you can fit.

ok I have went over,over,over your lithom battery & charging,seem to be getting picture about batteries,where do I start to get control of my chair back with these bigger tires.

By looking at the programming with an OEM programmer. For example, if motor compensation is set too low, you will have trouble starting a turn, if turn acceleration and deceleration are set too low, you will eventually turn and eventually stop a turn, but you will be hard pressed to get it aimed where you want it. Before considering the major complexity of a different, higher voltage, battery or a non-standard controller, you need to get the controller you have working as best it can. Then, before starting modifications, read, study, read and study some more - and make sure you know how to use a multitester, and know Ohm's law and so on.

Another small list.
1. Programming as above.
2. Pride often use small cable sizes on motors and batteries, that gives a voltage drop under load.
3. Batteries, if not either Odyssey PC1500 or MK Gel (less good for high current, best for longevity) will cause lack of torque due to high resistance/peukert.
4. Not sure if those are 2 or 4 pole motors, but 4 pole tend to bu much lower impedance, so make a lot more torque and pull more amps.
5. Batteries that are a few months old will cost you torque. And brand new cheap ones always will.
6. Adding wheel diameter reduces torque as you know, but it increases the motor amps taken at all times. Even when moving slowly. So depletes batteries faster.

SOUNDS GOOD, BATTERIES MAYBE PROBLEM , THEY ARE MK GEL,I WILL GET 2 NEW THRU MEDICARE MAKE SURE ARE HIGH AMP,I THINK I CAN TELL DIFF. WHEN THEY ARE FULLY CHARGED IN THE MORNINGS THE REP WHERE I GET MY PARTS FROM SAID IT WAS SET AT HIGHEST, BUT I WOULD LIKE TO HAVE MY OWN SCANNER, I KNOW ABOUT VOLT. DROP ON CABLES, I WILL GO TO BIGGER CABLES ON BATT. WHER CAN I GET CONNECTORS FROM, AND DO YOU KNOW WHER I CAN GET A SCANNER FROM .I THINK I CAN WORK ONE, I WAS A MECHANIC FOR 35 YEARS BEFORE I GOT HURT, BUT WE DID NOT DO ANY WHEELCHAIR WIRING, THANKS FOR THE HELP

Not sure what you mean by scanner? Which connectors are you talking about? More details needed...

sorry, I meant oem programmer,i am a auto mechanic a scanner is what you hook up to a cars obd computer, the connectors or? goes on batt. cables where I am going to put bigger gauge cables, to help with my power loss hope new batteries &cables will help some on my sterring problem after I put bigger tires on.

Hi Ridgerunner,
New batteries and cables won't help with your steering at all. They will help with any power loss through the originals. Bigger tyres also won't be much use to you either unless you make other changes. First thing to do is get yourself the correct programmer for your chair and once you do you can make changes to the way you wheelchair behaves. Whilst you're waiting for your programmer to arrive have a good look around the wheelchairdriver.com website and of course on the forum paying particular notice to wheel and tyre sizes and what needs to be done to accommodate large sizes. It's also worthwhile checking out the sections on batteries and their cabling along with better charging set ups. Above all ask away before committing to buying or changing anything as many people can save you time, effort and money by helping you avoid the mistakes they've already made. Above all enjoy learning things that will help you become independent again.

my cables are 8ga,that should big enough but I could go to a 6 or 4 I put 300x4 caster wheels on and 3.50x8 on rear now its hard to steer my chair and its draining my batt. ihave mk 34 in chair, I know I need new batt I got 2 new ones ordered, am going to wait before I do anything. going to fix it where I can charge batt. up separtly. any help from anybody would be helpful

Like SteveO says, you need to fix your chairs programming before doing anything else. Depending on your setup, 8 AWG might be the biggest cable size the power connector accepts.
