COVID-19 Vaccine: Will you be getting one?

Do you intend to get a COVID-19 vaccination? If so, do you have a preference for the Pfizer or Moderna?(or other?) Both seem very effective.

I plan to get one as soon as its available to me. If I get to choose, I'd prefer the Moderna vax, but will take whatever is available first. The reason I'd prefer Moderna is there seems to be less to go wrong in the handling and preparation of it. By wrong I just mean reducing effectiveness. I know several people who've gotten at least one dose of the Moderna vaccine already, and so far the most severe side effect has been a mildly sore arm where they received the shot. Anecdotal I know.

The Pfizer one has less time between doses. They also have a much longer history as a company. After all, it was Pfizer over two decades ago that created the little blue pill allowing dead men to rise again.

Yes, this week. One of my carers already done. The other two are awaiing a call/letter. ALL had to call doctor and fight as per usual with the useless NHS. They couldnt organize a piss up in a brewery. As they denied they could do it. But as usual, with a fight they can. This is the oxford one I think. No storage issues. No fancy fridge.

Well thats because the EU are still arguing about how it will be tested, certified, distributed, and how much to who and when as they always do with everything. The UK already vaxxed 1.5 million. Because we are no longer IN the EU!

Meanwhile Merkel gave up waiting and watching the UK, and the US, and jumped ship ignoring her precious EU completely. She ordered and paid for 76 million vaccines for germany in front of all the other EU countries. And now the EU are having a fight over this too! You couldnt make it up.

Interesting. The Oxford one is based off a chimp virus, while Moderna and Pfizer use mRNA which is why they require such cold storage. -4F for Moderna and -94F for Pfizer. As you say no fancy fridge required of Oxford.

It'll be fascinating to see how all these work out once a bunch of data is in. I find the mRNA approach interesting because it potentially has applications beyond just COVID.

Yes. mRNA vaccines in particular have never been approved for use in humans. Until COVID.

yes i will get it as soon as i am able to - hopefully end of this month or early Feb. - one of my girls got it today - first shot - not sure which one - i will ask but dont expect her to know - another one of my girls wants to do it also - and the other two are not in rush and worry about it - they dont seem to want it

i got covid and got over it in a months time - i feel much better now that i started to drink again - means i am back - but i dont want to get it again - who knows if i can overcome it the same way - either i have a good immune system or i just got lucky and was a mild case -

i know i felt like shit for a few weeks and never felt that sick before - everyday was a gamble - you never know if you will get better the next day or worse -

hopefully i can be protected antibodies for a few months now and should have the vaccine by then - i will take which ever one my doc. will have for me -

Once the UKs Oxford/Zenica one arrives in large quantities, it will be the most common here. Because it needs no special -70C refrigeration. Any old fridge is fine and a 6 month plus shelf life at up to 46f / 7.8C temps. It does not need the special hospital locations and appointments. And instead of £18+ a shot is about £2.

As soon as adequate quantities arrive this one will be rolled out to the community fast. To doctors, mass innocculations areas like sports halls and to chemists. So it should increase the speed of the innocculation process by 10 fold. And decrease the cost by 20 fold...

About 7 days away? Meanwhile the EU are still arguing about rules and legislation, and testing, and fighting merkel who jumped ship!

In the UK we used to laugh at the French because the greatest desire of most Frenchmen was to become a senior bureaucrat. This is because throughout most of their history, art, culture, science was shaped within the context of administrative law. The UK only had the Common Law - it didn't have an administrative law for most of its history - it only acquired one in the 20th. c. as did the US under the New Deal.

It's kind of ironic that of all the countries in Europe the French are now the most sceptical about the benefit of vaccines!

I won't be taking the Covid vaccine because I had Covid in November - its effects were weird but mild. I have had worse colds with great hacking coughs producing a lot of thick brownish mucus from my lungs.

Covid, on the other hand, created a dry cough and I felt the need to have the windows open despite the cold November temperatures [ 4 C ]. My chest became sore from all the tired chest muscles caused by regular coughing.

As for colds, Benylin has always worked a treat at clearing my lungs though official advice claims benylin is useless.

Yes, the upcoming vaccine from J&J only requires a single dose, and it can be stored at normal refrigerator temps while in distribution.

Another vaccine is also upcoming from a company called Novavax. All that said, I'll be getting the first that's available to me.

Excellent. Slower rollout here. I *might* be able to get one this week. If not, no later than the week of Feb. 15th.

It varies by state here, as they each have their own rollout programs as well as rules and regs. My state has vaccinated 5% of residents so far. A state next door has vaccinated 11% of their pop.

Yes Merk and another company abandoned their efforts after less than desirable field testing results. Moderna and Pfizer had much more success in their trials.

At the end of the day, its going to take some time to know how truly effective these vaccines are in their current state. All that said, I'm very thankful to have gotten mine. For Moderna, there is 28 days before the second dose. And another four weeks after before the the body has generated enough antibodies to be at full strength.

And yes, I am feeling inspired!

Yes, I'm fully aware both Pfizer and Moderna are mRNA based vaccines, which have never been used en mass on humans before. I did my own research. And am very pleased I got mine.
