Because we live in a crowded small island, and because we are around 90% free to do as we wish, infections are climbing quite fast. But people dont care since all the vulnerable and all the old that are likely to be hospitalised or die from it are already double vaccinated. They may still "catch" it. But are just not getting ill. Most of the new infections caught by the extensive testing operations are only finding the young infected. Since they are the last to be vaccinated. Most of them dont even know they are supposed to be feeling ill... The young are barely affected by it. So its all pretty much irrelivant how many are getting infected. Nobody cares any longer. It has less effect than a cold. And now they are starting vaccinating 18 year olds... Who are pretty much immune anyway.
So for all intents its all really over. Nobdy much is still bothering with masks or worrying about meeting in groups or sports etc.
This is a graph of covid deaths in the UK. Remember that most that die are not dying from covid. They die of many things, but have had positive covid tests within the last 28 days. So while we say that 18 per day currently die "from covid" here. Thats not really correct. Maybe non of those died FROM covid at all.
So this makes it look much worse than it really is. And its a month out of date by definition. As you can see we are all but free of it. At least those that die of it.
