Self operated transfer lift for mower, atv etc.?

Postby willyam » 01 Jun 2021, 02:35

Trying to help a friend research self powered transfer lifts, so he can get from his chair to zero turn mower, 4 wheeler etc. (his legs don't work at all).
Right now he's thinking over head gantry crane and electric winch.
Appreciate advice from you guys that know what works.

I've used sliding barn door hardware attached to the rafters in my garage and a rope block and tackle with brake. It's sketchy but it works, and so do my legs mostly. I've never tried without using leg strength. Unistrut is commonly available, well characterized, and has overhead trolleys with working loads of 600lbs.

You might want to look at swimming pool lifts - most seem to be seats on an arm that you transfer onto and then it picks you up and lowers you into the pool...

The key thing about them is that the ADA rules say that in order to meet their requirements for public pools (i.e. hotels) the lift must be usable (by a person able to transfer w/o assistance) without needing an attendant...

There are some versions that run off water pressure but some are battery powered - essentially you get a a lifting arm w/ a seat on it and a motorized pivoting base...
