Hyperion 1420i usage question

Postby Lephil » 16 Aug 2021, 15:58

Hi guys, it looks like you are expert in the use of this old charger and I have some questions maybe you can help with?

I'm an RC enthousiast and would like first to charge some nimh batteries.

Do I just have to connect them in series launch the automatic mode and voila? Also can I use 7,2v 5000 mah and mix with others of 6000mah? Can they be unevenly discharged?

I'd really apreciate a little help on that as with batteries I'm far from an expert. ;)

AA batts. Nickel based.

They should always be charged in series only. But unless they all start at the same discharge level they should be trickle charged at cc at the 15 hour rate. For 20 hours.

After this they will all be full and can be charged at around 1/3rd C in series using the delta peak method and around 4mv drop or bateries getting very warm signals that the pack is charged.

With lithium they can be charged in parallel as long as all the same aproximate state of charge, and capacity is irrelivant.

hello and thank you for your answer, I guess it's best to charge them one by one...

about the lipo's I have If I want to charge 2 of the same. (brand and model)

do I create a cable in series or parralell to charge them both? I understand I have to use the 2 balance docks and put one on each. then is there any automatic mode like for nimh? Is there something I have to be aware of. I know that with lipo's I have to be extra carefull.

Lithium can be charged in series or parallel as long as the wiring is correct.

Lipos explode if yo charge above 4.200v per cell. As for charge current charge at 1C - not really critical. I never use auto anything. Wouldnt trust it
