Hello!

I have a multifunction printer.
HP2540

Ink cartridges are very expensive.
Until now I was recharging cartridges with a syringe.
Now the printer tells me that those cartridges have to be changed.
Printer Makers Are Scoundrels.

i always buy a Brother MFC unit - ink is cheap

before buying any printer i always tell the person to check the ink how much it cost first -

alot of times - you get free printers - or very cheap to buy - then your stuck with the ink costing 3x the cost of the printer -

your better off throwing it away - get a brother and use generic ink for cheap

yes but on some printer models even those are not as cheap - i found the bother printers are not too expensive to buy - i pay around $100 - the ink is very cheap

I have a Brother AIO b&w laser printer. Its toner cartridges last a long time. Much linger than ink. When I do need a new toner cartridge, I buy knock offs which are pretty cheap. No problems here!

Be warned when refilling used ink cartridges as eventually it knackers the printhead. Been there, done that and got the T-shirt!

On some HP's the ink cartridge is actually the printhead too, so more expensive.

I have a Brother HL-L2350DW for black & white printing and an Epson WF 2750DWF for very slow colour printing. For both I use generic cartridges.

The printers themselves are relatively cheap. The branded consumables are the money spinners, I suppose.

I have 3 brothers. But use a dell colour laser all in one with cheap aftermarket toner. Prints fast. And super cheap. And can do 5 to 10k of colour pages. Inkjets are a waste of $$$£££ and always go wrong.

Generic cartridges won't work on newer HP's since the genuine ones are chipped. When you try using 3rd party ink, the printer simply rejects it and refuses to work until "proper" cartridges are used.

My Epson gives a warning saying the cartridges are not genuine, use anyway?

I would not want a printer that wants to tie me in to its brand of consumables.

But even with the limits of my comprehension, I still answer that Epson with a Yes.
The brother doesn't even ask.

HP printer refusal to work with generic cartridges has already been ruled illegal in the U.S. Legal procwedings are underway in Europe, but for now those printers will still reject cartridges that don't have the "right" chip. Other manufacturers, such as Epson, also include ID chips in the cartridges, but just give you a warning that you are not using a genuine cartridge, so one has to click on a button saying "continue anyway".

i buy an Brother MFC - for $100 or less - add $20 for 5 year or 4 year warranty - amazon - easy -

i dont worry about it for at least 4 or 5 years - if it breaks before i get a new one - if it breaks after - i throw it out and start over -

ink for the bothers are cheap i find many - sometimes for a $1 each - depends but either way - $20 can last me 6 months or more - 3 of each color and 4 black

size wise is good for me - i dont need a professional printer to print a letter etc, color i dont even use - with color the original ink does work better - but unless you really need a professional print - for basic not important stuff - its more than good

Then a cheap monochrome laser would be your best, fastest cheapest and most reliable option.

ok what is there - what ever is there - i am sure its not cheap

not with HP at least - or Dell or other major brands - i never looked into them for a few reasons - size and cost - and ink or toner etc,

An ink toner has a powdery stuff that burns onto the paper. Remember getting a slim A4 one at college that was going to be thrown out, so you can buy compact ones expresso.

The advantage of an inkjet is cheap to buy They then spend most of their time soaking paper with ink, blocking nozzles, and wasting super expensive ink.

The advantage of a laser printer is that they are MUCH more reliable, paper is dry and shiny and warm as it is ejected and they cost far less per page to print. For home use you will likely never need to replace the toner. If you do its a cheap cartridge that can print thousands of pages. Fast. Buy it. Use it. And forget about wet ink, head cleaning, blockages, cost of consumables. They do colour ones too. Not so small/cheap though.

I have up buggering about with inkjets a long time ago. They are a continual source of disaster and cost.

If you go to your high street printers, you dont suppose they use inkjets do you?

i never gave it much though before - if i can find a compact size and cheap - meaning not $500 - i dont mind a few hundred if it works that well and toner lasts enough and cheap to replace


i will do that for my next one - all i really need is copy fax print scan etc, i dont even fax any more - i use online faxing - dont have a telephone any longer - cell phone only and magic jack which works off the internet -

when my current printer goes - i will try one - any links to compact models ?
