Right... NEW PC!

I am buying parts.
I already have a beautiful case, with water radiator in top, glass panels etc. And a bunch of M.2 drives at 1TB and 2TB. And am only needing to replace the motherboard, cpu, and the main plan is to also replace my GTX 1070 graphics card with the hugely fast 3080Ti. As I now use 4k monitor. Thats about the only card that can properly do this with high frame rates and full detail at 4k. It takes 350 watts to do so!!! On its own.

I already have fast 64GB DDR4 corsair memory. So that can just be reused. I already have 1000 watt corsair power supply.

So it goes without saying I want the following.

1. Intel I9-12900K 24 Core 3.20GHZ to 5.2GHz Max Turbo (ALDER LAKE) SOCKET LGA1700 CPU. Right now this murders everything else on the market in every way and I can buy it right now... So will be doing so soon. I will use my existing 3 fan, 360mm radiator. https://www.overclockers.co.uk/intel-co ... a3-in.html

2. Nvidia 3080Ti as again, its quite unbelievable, and will do 4k with ful detail. The main reason to upgrade for my MS flght sim... I will use a EVGA wter cooled Hybrid. Now theres a mass shortage of GPUs right now so this will be installed in about 9 months when I can get one at a sensible price and not be scalped! The old GTX 1070 will work for now. This: Includs the 2 fan, 240mm radiator. https://www.scan.co.uk/products/evga-nv ... card-10240

3. A motherboard. A DDR4 one. They go from basic 150 to around 1k... And this is where I am looking to figure out what I want. Asus are my go to boards. The rest have worse bios features etc and more "fixes"... from my experience. So was looking at the TUF one. Its price is right. Its features are right. But undecided. https://www.overclockers.co.uk/pc-compo ... 90-chipset these.

Good luck getting your hands on a 3080Ti at MSRP anytime soon. But you know that.

About the only way to get RTX 3000 series cards at reasonable value at this time is in prebuilt systems. But those can have their own set of problems.

I personally like Asus's TUF line of motherboards. Well built with all the best features, without the unnecessary wiz bang.

It'll be one hell of a system once all is said and done.

Well I will use my 1070 nvidia card until the 3080Ti is available. The 3080 cant quite cope with 4k at max detail. And the Ti is within 4 percent of the stupidly priced and sized 3090. So nobody will buy that now.

Yes its a toss up between the strix gaming and the tuf. The tuff is practically the same but has worse sound. Since my sound is via the 4k 55 inch OLED TV/Monitor that isnt a concern...

Heres my cart! This thing will be faster than most users PCs still in a decade! You cant really get anything faster than the 3080Ti and the 12900K CPU at any price. And way more than I need other than 4k gaming. And then its the only thing that will do it properly!

Fortunately this will drop straight into my existing mem, case, power supply, coolers, and so cost isnt extortionate. Until I buy the GPU at which point I will cry.

I'm still rocking a 1070 LOL. I'd consider a 3060Ti if it ever sells at retail prices again.

My 1070 wont do 4k... Well it will very badly with detail set to off...

But the 3080 will. Just. But the 1080Ti is 30% faster! And almost matches the 3090.

The problem is that typcal 1080p gaming is ok with a low end gtx1070 card. But 4K is FOUR TIMES the pixels. Like playing four 1080p games at once. It takes both a massively more powerful GPU, 4X the memory, and really needs 4x the CPU power all at the same time. And 4x the data bandwidth bus speed etc. Going 4K is really hard or should I say expensive. If you want to do it right. It also bumps up the GPU power needs from 100 ish watts to 350 /400 watts! And it does the same with the CPU. Up from 120/140 watts to 250 or so. So you need a whole new setup and a massive power supply. And a better way to cool the gpu.

So now we wait to see when the cost of the 3080Ti drops to sane levels. Then I will buy. Just after xmas I will buy the fastest CPU and motherboard after the prices drop. And they will.
