Baby oil

Looking at a jar of baby oil made me wonder...
Coconut oil, comes from coconuts, same with olive oil, sunflower oil, etc. Presumably they dont crush up babies for oil. So I looked online. Its mineral oil. So women all over the planet are basically rubbing engine oil on their babies and own bodies. Lovely.

I don't know why we use petroleum oil on our skin. I think perhaps the petroleum oil keeps its texture when it's warm. The oil I use on my fingernails is also petroleum oil, which I didn't like the sound of, so I tried vitamin E oil instead, as I have used to good effect on my surgery scars. That's simply sunflower oil usually, but other plant oils also contain vitamin E. I preferred the petroleum oil to sunflower oil on my fingers.
Rapeseed oil is gaining a reputation as a car oil and no wonder, it adds a horrible flavour if you cook with it.

The wonder of marketing over ignorance.

Maybe. But I think more likely it has something to do with the melting point of the oils. Even when you cook the oils all smoke or melt at different temperatures.
